Even the Slow Release leaves him red and blotchy with hives, so I ordered this Slow Release Niacin , and now he takes his Niacin with no side effects.

I took flush-free niacin for almost two years before I learned that there is a reason doctors won't recommend it -- it doesn't work. The chemical composition of flush-free niacin is not the same as the type that doctors recommend to raise HDL and lower LDL. It is unfortunately simply a gimick - at least in that regard. The brand Slo Niacin is the right stuff, but is released gradually into your system, hopefully to reduce the flushing. It may also help to work into it gradually by taking the lowest dosage for a while and by taking it just before bedtime. Supposedly, taking an aspirin 30 min. before the niacin also reduces the flushing for some people. As I understand it, there are many benefits to taking niacin (e.g., it's one of the few non-prescription things you can do to raise HDL) but it is difficult to tolerate. Sadly, flush-free niacin is not much more than a placebo.

My husband has trouble taking his doctor prescribed Niacin. Even the Slow Release leaves him red and blotchy with hives, so I ordered this Slow Release Niacin , and now he takes his Niacin with no side effects. He recommends it to all those who have to take Niacin.

Tried taking a niacin supplement once before and had terrible flushing side effects. Couldn't stand it. This stuff is cool. I took a baby aspirin with it and no side effects at all.

My father has heart disease and he recommended he go on flush free niacin. It seems to be helping him and that's all that matters. Make sure to get the flush free kind. Buying through Amazon's retailers sure saves a LOT of money compared to the big chain stores prices.

I've been on this for a few years and it helps a lot to keep the cholesterol down. I found out about it when the doctor put me on Niaspan...but I had every one of the side effects with that! I'm really glad I found the double bottle on amazon. Saves some money.
