I bought this product (elsewhere) but am very pleased with it.

If you have dogs that love (and were bred) to pull like I do, they can pull to their hearts content.

It ended up being impossible to use, even with trying to keep my foot way forward on the pedal.

I've owned the Springer dog jogger for about 8 months. I use it almost daily but there are important things a buyer needs to know before buying one. First, the bracket did not fit on the seat post as the directions offered...and I have a basic, common Schwinn. I had to put it on the bike frame, but it still required more plastic sleeves and an additional piece of rubber to get it to fit securely. (I followed the directions to the letter). Plan on tightening some of the bolts after every use for the first 10 to 15 times. The included plastic clip that attached to my dog's collar FAILED, allowing him to run into the middle of a busy four lane street. So, plan on replacing that part with something more substantial. I replaced the harness that came with it, because the quality of it was questionable. With all these things said, it is a great way to exercise your dog and the spring does absorb your dog's lunges very well. My dog loves going for "Springer runs." The manufacturer needs to improve the design.

I have two dog-aggressive rescue dogs that were not getting their exercise because they were so difficult to walk. I bought this product (elsewhere) but am very pleased with it. I do try to stay very aware when I am biking them (walking one of them I have become completely airborne I have been yanked so hard - so that helps me pay attention!). Also I want to make sure the dog is comfortable, so I monitor the tautness of the attachment. When we go near another dog and there is a problem I bike a bit faster to maintain control.

I think this is a wonderful product - but yes, you should absolutely stay aware of your surroundings and your dog. (Sorry to hear that the other reviewer had such a bad time of it.)

With two Alaskan Malamutes, there is no way I could properly exercise them each day without this product. At a slow pace they can practice proper gait for the show ring and at a faster pace they can burn up some of that extra energy. If you have dogs that love (and were bred) to pull like I do, they can pull to their hearts content. Initially I ran them separately but since the springer allows for switching the unit from one side to the other, I bought a second and now run them together. They enjoy being out together and it saves time.

Although some pictures show using the unit without a leash, I would advise against that. If you have a big dog you need to be able to control it if a rabbit or other critter runs out of the brush. I use a short leash about 3 foot long on each dog.

Also I was not happy with the method of hooking the dogs up. Instead each dog wears a Distance Harness from Howling Dog Mushing Supplies

[...]

I use a brass double ended bolt snap to hook from the harnesses to the springer.

you can buy this directly from Springer for $48. I don't believe the list price listed by this seller.

I just used the Springer Bike Leash for the first time today. Two things to know...if you have a small dog (like mine who's 22lbs and 15 1/2 inches at the shoulder)you have to bike pretty slow. The dog will get exercise but you won't get too much. This product probably works alot better for a bigger dog.

Second thing--assembly instructions say to use contact glue. I tried this and it didn't work. I unassembled the unit and used Liquid Nails. That seemed to work alot better but the clamp still rotates backward somewhat when the dog lags while on the leash.

The concept is good, and worked beautifully with my German Shepherd, but unfortunately being short (5') with a smaller bike frame, even with the clamp as high as it could go on the seat post, I kept clipping the back of my ankle on the curved part of the Springer--(which REALLY hurt!) It ended up being impossible to use, even with trying to keep my foot way forward on the pedal. Do not buy if you are short!!

I have had a Springer for three years now and can't imagine life without it! I have a very athletic Brittany and we do circuits of five to 15 miles on the bike. He loves to pull and generally does all the work for the first 30 minutes. This is the safest way there is to run a dog off a bike. HOWEVER....this product was $49.95 when I bought it three years ago; since then the distributor had changed and it is $79.99 on the [...] website. How this vendor can get away with asking $149 is beyond me! My advice: Shop around.

I've used a springer for the last 6 years or so. Overall it works well, keeping the dog out of harm's way and giving you good control. The clamp construction is heavy stamped steel - once it is correctly mounted, you don't want to take it off and on regularly. I bought an extra seatpost and saddle for my bike just to keep the springer mounted on.

You need to pay attention to you dog as it is easy to run them too hard - the only time we've crashed was when I over-exerted the dog and he took a hard turn away from me to go to a pond.

Much much safer than messing around with a leash. Be aware of your dog and the environment and you'll be safe.
