SPRINGFIELD - Royal Caribbean's call center in the Gateway area is just a little leaner after its parent company's decision to eliminate 400 land-based jobs.

The Springfield facility cut six positions, and now has a total head count of about 300 employees, Human Resources Manager Lena Kostopulos said.

Citing soaring fuel costs, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., which is based in Miami, unveiled a cost-cutting plan in late July when it announced its second quarter earnings.
