The presence of supplies of bird seed will frequently lead to a hatching of bird seed moths who will then explore your food supply and proceed to plant a new generation that will grow in cereals, grains cookies, pastas and the like. Bird seed moth traps attract the moths on a sticky surface enclosed in a semi enclosed box and stop the population explosion cold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Effective, September 26, 2009

This review is from: Springstar BioCare Birdseed Moth Traps S204 (Lawn & Patio)
I bought some bird food that was evidently infested with moth eggs and larva. Within two weeks, my house was full of moths. Tried cleaning, vacuuming, swatting and spraying, but nothing helped. They kept multiplying. Bought another brand and this brand to try the moth trap. The other brand attracted moths, but 4 out of 5 got loose from the sticky pad. Put this trap in the same room as the other brand. Worked absolutely great. The other brand had 4 moths in it at the end of the day. This trap had hundreds of moths with a good sticky pad that keeps them stuck.

For the reviewers that say this does not work. A few things you might want to know to help you.

1. First, make sure you read the directions and follow instructions. This trap attracts the males. The females that were left just landed on the wall and stayed there. I simply sucked them up with the vacuum since they did not move after all the males were gone.

2. If you smoke, wash your hands, wash your hands, and wash your hands. Then put on some latex gloves when you handle the trap and bait. My friend smokes and when she tried the trap, the moths would not come near it. I researched this. Turns out, even the slightest residue of cigerette will keep the moths away from the trap.

3. If you don't smoke wash your hands before handling the trap. Try to keep from handling the bait too long.

4. After you handle the bait, wash your hands again. I found this out the hard way. After placing the bait in the trap, I went to do some work on the computer. Within 5 minutes I had moths who evidently though I was a giant female. They were all over my hand and arm.

5 Place the bait where the moths congregate most. In my case, after they were done feeding, they migrated to the curtains where the females were. I placed my trap on top the curtain rod above the curtain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, June 15, 2007
This is the first review I have written on amazon. This worked that well. These really do work wonders! We recently switched our parrot to a all natural bulk food from the local exotic bird store and we are swarmed with moths. After a week and a half of having a few out, the 3-4 dozen moths were gone, now we just keep one out and it keeps the few we get under control. There is no question that they are safe and easy to use. They are not ugly nor pretty but work well. That is my only complaint, that they could also make a version that was more decorative for a room. But I solved that problem by placing it in a stealth position, they moths still came to the attractant.
