Worked for me!,

This review is from: Springstar Glass Fruit Fly Trap (Lawn & Patio)
I got one of these for wasps and put it on the railing of my deck. It is attractive but it gets ugly fast with all the bugs it catches.I catches everything, wasps flies and bettles and also some bees that I was not happy about, but it happens with all traps. I put in about one inch of regular sugar soda (cola) and they came a runnin' (or should I say came flyin')It filled up very fast the only thing is dumping it but if you stay away from the smelly stuff and stick with soda there is no smell. The soda may not be as affective but it does do a great job anyway.

I used it to catch fruit flies that were in my apartment. I used red wine vinegar as the bait, and it worked very well. I also just used a jar with the same vinegar and a little dish soap, and it worked almost as well, but this did work better and is more attractive.

I think these work well for fruit flies, without any fancy stuff in it. Just a bit of wine, or red wine vinegar. The one that I bought from my local hardware store was designed the exact same way.

I ordered two of these fruit fly traps from Best Nest. I used them once, and when I washed them out wearing rubber gloves and using only hot water (no soap or scrubber), the color began to peel off in large chunks. They need to be washed because the mix used to attract fruit fly has a ghastly smell. Seriously, a VERY bad smell.

This thing is a POS ----- Breeding ground for maggots.,

Updated review (day 6):I am changing my rating from 3 to 1 right now!!!! The flies fly in and then they fly right back out. It has managed to kill some flies so far, but what my wife and I discovered right now is ridiculous. This thing is a POS! There are little maggots crawling in and out of the water and are on the outside of the trap too. The solution with a couple drops of dish soap barely killed flies and in fact made an environment to breed. Initial Review (Day 1): My work at a huge fruit fly problem and so we used the Terro 2500 fruit fly trap. Within 30 minutes we had 6 fruit flys that landed on it (not yet inside). Well, we ended up having a fruit fly problem at home soon after, so I decided to purchase this particular one since it is reusable. Plus, I saw other reviews talking about using different types of vinegar with soap as the bait (thank you!). Well, it has been about 24 hours and so far we I only count 1 fruit fly that is floating in the solution. I'm not very impressed at this point because my wife and I have actually seen the darn flies going in the contraption, then flying right back out. The Terro 2500 seemed to do a better job keeping the flies in once they were in. Last night we went ahead and followed the instructions. The instructions are good enough but could use a little more information. As others have experienced, we too spilled the solution as there is a huge hole on the bottom and it's a bit difficult tilting it just enough to pour the solution in. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to hang the trap or set it down. It doesn't say in the package materials, though it does come strapped with a kind of wire that looks like it's meant to be used for hanging. The trap also has little areas that stick out on the bottom that indicate that the trap can be set down somewhere like on the counter. For day 1, we have it hung up over the kitchen sink. I think we'll go ahead and take it down then place it somewhere on the counter. Maybe the flies will be less likely to fly right back out if it's sitting on the counter instead of being completely free to fly right out of the huge hole on the bottom.

I use my own homemade liquid for this trap (apple cider vinegar and a drop or two of Dawn). It works perfectly! The container is old-fashioned looking and more attractive than sitting a bowl of the liquid on the counter; it's also less likely to spill than a bowl.

It really Works Great!!!I bought this trap for my office cafeteria. Some trash cans were left over a weekend and then we had a huge Fruit Fly problem. This trap is easy enough to set-up. The "Bait" lasted 3 weeks before the glass container was filled with a few hundred Fruit Flies. Rinsed it out and set it up again. We are now using Cider Vinegar with a few drops of dish soap for Bait. Seems just as effective. Very few Fruit Flies are remaining. I will be buying a few more of these for the guys at work.

Effective and attractive product.,
This review is from: Springstar Glass Fruit Fly Trap (Lawn & Patio)
Received the product, dissolved the lure into hot water, and placed in the kitchen immediately after receiving it. Within 24 hours the trap was beginning to capture flies, and within another day or two they were essentially gone. It also looks attractive sitting on the counter. The packaging on the one lure that comes with the trap indicates that it should work for 10 - 14 days. After several days of no flies, it would appear that the trap won't be needed again for a while.
