4.0 out of 5 stars Grass Gator Wasp & Hornet Trap
Works extremely well, to the point that it attracts (and traps) so many yellowjackets that it unfortunately needs frequent emptying. However, of all the traps I've tried -- and I've tried a number of them -- this is by far the easiest to use and clean, and for lower cost than most traps. Note: I suggest using apple juice in the trap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yellow Jacket & Wasp Trap
I was not at all pleased with the performance of the Grass Gator YJT1 Yellow Jacket & Wasp Trap. Dispite experimenting with sugar water and various fruit juices to attract the yellow jackets and wasps, it only attracted a very few bees and maybe a wasp or two. My wasps this year were very large and were able, even when they entered the trap, to climb out.

This trap system works very well. I have two of them and on some days I've caught at least 50 of them in both traps. I found that apple juice doesn't do much but chicken skins, tuna, salmon work really well. Water and soap at the bottom of the trap works just as good as fruit juices and is a lot cheaper. The only gripe I have it that the traps are a bit more money then they should be. Take a plastic jar with a 3/4 inch PVC pipe through it I could have made my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grass Gator Yellow Jacket and Wasp Trap, August 1, 2001

This is an excellent product that began working for us immediately! I filled the trap with 1 cup of apple juice (no meat), set it outside on our patio table in the morning and left. That evening I checked back and was surprised to see the trap just full of dead wasps (and a few other flying insects)! I set it out again the next day and it has really made a difference! The best part is the fact that it uses NO pesticides and is completely safe to use around our small children! I highly recommend this product!

I have used Oak Farms Yellow Jacket trap for at least eight years. It has significatly reduced the population, expecially if it is put out early spring and you catch some queens. Apple Juice and cat food works the best.

Purchased nine of these traps but had very little success. Followed the instructions exactly and caught about 1 wasp per trap over a weeks time but caught dozens of flies. Not worth the effort ar all.

The item as we received it is not the same as the item described on the packaging and in the instructions. The packaging shows a rod through the center of the jar and instructs you to place a meat product in what appears to be a hollow in the center of the bar. However, there is no bar in the product as shipped. It's just a jar with two indentations in the sides.

What there is, is a length of wire twist tie and a little vial of liquid (one of which apparently leaked into its sealed glassine envelope). There are no instructions as to how to set this up in the jar. We don't know whether one is supposed to suspend the vial in the jar with the twist tie, or whether one is to mix the vial contents in juice or water or put it on meat and use the twist tie to hang it, or what.

I don't know whether we got an old design in the packaging intended for a new and improved product, or whether we got a new and not as good (cheaper) redesigned product in packaging left over from when it was a better product, or whether what we got was a fly trap in a yellow jacket package, but I wasn't about to speculate. We are returning them unused. So I can't say how well they would work if we knew how to set up what we got, but frankly it doesn't look that effective as it came to us.

Anyhow, until they sort out what they are selling and give you accurate instructions on the package to use the product in the package, I can't recommend this.
