1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment, August 5, 2011
I read the entire book in the hope that somehow it would eventually begin to live up to its hype, but that did not happen.

It is a waste of a good idea, and sadly reading it was just a bit of a waste of precious time.

Hopefully one day someone will write a fun book about modern Germany that is not only easy to read but accurate, informative and interesting, and not simply vaguely patronising and rather shallow. This however is not that book.

5.0 out of 5 stars he's marching to a faster pace, November 12, 2011

(REAL NAME)
Playing on the words from Mel Brooks' "Producers," this fun travel essay book is not only as funny as that movie/play but definitely shows you there is a whole other side to Germany.

Who knew many of our Christmas traditions are from German ones and that Nuremberg is known for its unique Christmas markets? Or that Oktoberfest is actually held in September and totally family friendly?

So many gems come out of Ben Donald's willingness to take a leap of faith and try many aspects of German culture and challenge the stereotypes esp. of Germans on vacation.

Anyone picking this up will be amazed at how little many of us know about Germany and how much fun (yes, I said it--f...u...n) Germans can be.
