5.0 out of 5 stars Truly wonderful - A great finale.
Indeed, "A Springwater Christmas" is a great finale. It is the final chapter in the Springwater series. In this book, two new characters, Jack McLaughlin and Olivia Darling, are introduced. However, Jack has more in common with the folks of Springwater, then is at first believed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent read but it would help to read the entire series 1st
A Springwater Christmas will no doubt please fans of the "Springwater" series because it appears that every character (and all of their *many* kids) make an appearance here. I hadn't read the previous books and found these people to be nothing more than a huge distraction because they did very little to enhance the love story. But, if you're a fan, you may...

Indeed, "A Springwater Christmas" is a great finale. It is the final chapter in the Springwater series. In this book, two new characters, Jack McLaughlin and Olivia Darling, are introduced. However, Jack has more in common with the folks of Springwater, then is at first believed.

"A Springwater Christmas" is about the romance of Jack and Olivia. It is an enchanting, heartwarming story. It is about hope. Jack and Olivia's feelings are unveiled and they become romantically involved. Jack's past is revealed. A past which involves others in Springwater. Olivia, who thought she would forever remain a spinster, began to thaw in the winter cold.

"A Springwater Christmas" has a surprising twist that will make you cry. It is a book about a special family. Read it and discover the secret revealed.

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Series!, February 24, 2004

I have read through the Springwater Series faster than anything else! It is such a heartwarming frontier town and really makes you feel like you are part of the group.

This book picks up right where Jessica's story left off. At the end of her book, Miss Olivia Darling was saved from the wrecked train and was moving to Springwater to start a boarding house. It's been about a year, and she hasn't had a boarder...until the mysterious Jack McLaughlin shows up on her doorstep. He has a past that he's trying to hide, but also wrestling with whether or not he should reveal his secrets. It goes on from there...

I cried when I read this book. It was touching. It is predictable...as most romance novels are...but it was such a heartwarming tale. Read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A touching story--get the rest of the series too!, May 23, 2000
This review is from: A Springwater Christmas (Springwater Seasons) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jack McLaughlin came to Springwater with little more than bitter memories of the Civil War -- and a secret. Wounded by betrayal and fearing the wrath and hurt of his parents, he decides to keep his true identity a secret. Unable to face them he is need for closure, for forgiveness he knows they will be unable to give, he decides to keep his identity a secret. Keeping a low profile, he takes a room at Springwater's new boarding house, watching them from afar.

Uncharacteristically impulsive, Olivia Darling left the East after her controlling aunt's death and opened a boarding house in Springwater. The town's citizens greet her with open arms, yet she finds it hard to accept their friendship. Her aunt had never found her worthy of much, so she has erected barriers to protect herself from hurt, and she hasn't learned how to love. Until Jack drifts into her life. As the warmth and joy of the Christmas season creep around her wall of protection, she is not only thrilled to find the people of Springwater are genuine, she also finds that her heart is open to the sweetness and love Jack offers her.

With the surprising revelation of Jack's true name, there will be a change in Springwater. Can this Christmas in hold a special miracle for Jack and Olivia?

In grand tradition, Ms. Miller brings us back to Springwater, Montana. This is a heartwarming tale, one that will draw a reader in and capture her attention until the book is finished. The characters are well drawn, and they are well-balanced--the secondary characters enrich the tale without overshadowing Jack and Olivia's story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful end to a great romantic series, September 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Springwater Christmas (Springwater Seasons) (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1882, stranger Jack McLaughlin arrives in Springwater, Montana Territory seeking information about Jacob and June-Bug McCaffrey. Surprisingly, Jack fails to stay at the Springwater Station, owned and operated by the McCaffreys. Instead, he becomes the first person to take a room at spinster Olivia Wilcott Darling's boarding house.

Olivia has lived a bitter, lonely life ever since her parents died when she was a child. Her Aunt Eloise raised Olivia, but destroyed the lass' dreams. To her shock, Olivia wants Jack from the first moment she meets him. He reciprocates her desires. However, haunted by his actions during the Civil War, he hides secrets that threaten to engulf him and ultimately force him to leave town once they are revealed. Love may not be enough to cleanse his soul and scrub away her fear of commitment.

A SPRINGWATER CHRISTMAS is an entertaining and wonderful western romance. The story line concentrates on two loners with little hope for a future. The lead characters are an engaging pair and the support cast enlarges the tale with a homecoming feel as many appeared in previous novels. Ms. Miller continues to provide to make her "Springwater" series some of the best works in the sub-genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Had me crying & laughing out loud..., March 23, 2005
This review is from: A Springwater Christmas (Springwater Seasons) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a really good book. The last book left off with our meeting Olivia who was saved from the train wreck. This book starts off with a stranger riding into Springwater & he stays at Olivia's rooming house. It's no secret because it's pretty obvious from the description & right off in the book so I'm just going to state that the stranger is one of June Bug's & Jacob's long lost twin boys returned using the name Jack. We've all thought that both sons were dead but here you will see a reunion as well as Olivia & "Jack" falling in love. This book had me crying & laughing out loud. It's a really great heartwarming tale. Read it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just for the holidays!, November 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: A Springwater Christmas (Springwater Seasons) (Mass Market Paperback)
The title led me to believe that this was a warm fuzzy book appropriate for the holidays. However the reviews set me straight and i decided to read it. I had not read the prequels to this so the characters were all new. The story line is aptly told in other reviews. This is an excellent story, certainly with a different plot, that is about friendship, love, and forgiveness. The hero......jack/will/wesley is a hunk by any name. His emotions bare his soul to us. Olivia is a "spinster" with an enormous amount of love to offer once she opens herself up to those possibilities. I wish ms miller would have made olivia a bit less spinsterish and perhaps not referred to her so often as being a prickly spinster. You could see the evolution happening but unfortunately the book ended too quickly. I am very glad I picked this one up and would read it again.......even in the summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, September 24, 2009
This review is from: A Springwater Christmas (Springwater Seasons) (Mass Market Paperback)
I bring this book out every Christmas. Even though I know I will cry like a baby I feel the need to revisit the story. Do not read this book until you have read Springwater and Springwater Seasons. This story ties up the loose ends in a way you will not believe. Several years have passed since I first read the series and this story is by far the best.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent read but it would help to read the entire series 1st, May 16, 2000
This review is from: A Springwater Christmas (Springwater Seasons) (Mass Market Paperback)
A Springwater Christmas will no doubt please fans of the "Springwater" series because it appears that every character (and all of their *many* kids) make an appearance here. I hadn't read the previous books and found these people to be nothing more than a huge distraction because they did very little to enhance the love story. But, if you're a fan, you may love seeing these people again.

The main story focuses on Olivia Darling, a grumpy spinster who spent her best years tending for an ailing aunt who thanked her by berating her and destroying her confidence. Now that the horrid aunt has finally died Olivia is free to live her life the way she chooses. Sure that her childbearing years are well behind her she has given up on her dreams of love and family and has instead purchased a boarding house in Springwater.

Olivia's first boarder is Jack McLaughlin, a secretive civil-war survivor looking for a quiet place to rest. These two lonely, wounded souls make an immediate connection but Jack's past haunts him and until he finds peace with himself he is unable to give his heart to Olivia.

Jack makes this often predictable book worth reading. He is simply a wonderful hero who really leaps off the pages. If you have a soft spot for wounded heroes you'll love Jack. Olivia, on the other hand, wasn't as easy to like. She takes the "prickly" heroine to a whole new level and often behaves like a crabby granny rather than a thirty-two year old woman.

Although I wish the author had toned down the constant interruptions made by the secondary characters this was still a better than average romance - all because of Jack. I recommend it with caveats to readers on the lookout for a warm and sweetish Americana.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, October 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Springwater Christmas (Springwater Seasons) (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading the first 5 books of the "Springwater" series of books by Linda, I didn't think that she would have any more books in her about the settlement!! When lo and behold when I was shopping in the bookstore what should I see, but another book in the series!! It only took me a day and half to get reaquainted with the residents of Springwater and the 2 new residents of Springwater and to hope for the best for then and the 2 most important residents of the settlement. I was not let down and enjoyed the book very much and was very happy with the way it turned out and how happy everybody was at the end of the story. All I can say is keep on writing about the citizens of Springwater, Ms. Miller!!
