This did not boost cell phone signal one bit, but it could be our location.

This product works as billed. Had one in service for about a year. Incredible signal in the defined area in a building where tower coverage was / is a problem. Could not be happier with the product and an added benefit is that the minutes that you use when talking via the Airave do not accumulate as min. used on your cell plan.

When you make or receive a call that comes via the Airave and you move out of range, if you are in range of a traditional tower you move to the external tower flawlessly. One thing to note is that if you are out of range and are on a call and come into range of the Airave you will not move to the device. Not a big deal but you should know this.

First the caveat: Order this product ONLY if you need better phone coverage at home and have DSL internet from your cable or phone company. This box will only work to amp up your phone coverage by using your internet connection.

My story: After 3 weeks of waiting for Sprint to ship me a "free" Airave, I gave up and ordered one through Amazon. As it worked out, this was a good move since I was able to get it fast (thanks Mr. Reseller!) and contact Sprint Tech Support.

This is the important part: the Airave box was about a year old and the Sprint Tech Support number on the label was incorrect. If you are a Sprint customer, just call *2 on your mobile phone and get to tech support on a free call. You may want to plug your phone into the power cord as it took the tech about 20 minutes to provision the Airave box.

Another tip: Call Sprint first, tell them that you are only getting "1 Bar" coverage in your home and that you were told by a tech person that Sprint offers the Airave for free. This is true as it is what I was told. The catch is that you may not get the box. The good news is if you wait two weeks, buy the Airave, then call SPrint, they will have a record of your call and set it up over the phone - without charge!

I've been a Sprint subscriber for just about a decade. When at home, I've never had truly excellent connectivity. When I started exploring the possibility of getting rid of my landline service, I learned that Sprint offered a solution: the inherently unpronounceable Airave (Air-rave, air-ave, ai-rave?).

Installation was a snap. Connect it to your router, plug it in and walk away for a while. Sprint suggests two hours. If at least three lights are solid green, you're good to go.

More likely than not, however one light (Mobile) will be blinking amber, indicating no service. A call to Sprint and, if your rep is competent, the activation process will start again. Sprint warns to allow up to two hours. In a half-hour, I was ready to go.

What a total delight: a maximum strength signal on the phone's meter, all through the house.

Now I can seriously think about doing away with my landline.

The Airave has a built-in GPS and should work with most E911 services. But remember that if the power goes out, your Airave goes down as well taking the E911 along with it. Your cell phone may have it built-in. Just something to be aware.

Your mileage may vary. Others have reported problems with the GPS. Sprint includes an external GPS antenna, which I did not need.

Overall, a great device that provides solid connectivity for you cell phone inside your home.

I was having dropped calls all the time in my house. If I turned the wrong way in my recliner, the call would drop. I called Sprint several times who agreed to send me one free of charge due to the problems I was having. The item arrived, and the setup was pretty straightforward. Make sure you use the external GPS antenna, as lots have trouble with getting the GPS obtained. Without a GPS signal, the device will not work, because the GPS is used for 9-11 mapping. It says in the instructions that it will take up to 2 hours to initialize. I kept getting error lights, and contacted customer support after midnight (I was impressed they have support for this specific device that late). They sent the airave device updates via broadband, and I let it reinitialize. Took about 35 minutes, but now I get full 5 bars in the surrounding rooms, and 3-4 bars through the rest of the house. Works perfect, just as described. Was a pain going through tech support, but well worth it for great indoor signal. The new models support up to 6 calls at once. Very satisfied.

I get a full signal where I had none before, and now I can talk indoors when I used to have to go outside to stay connected on my cell. It works beautifully with no noticeable change to bandwidth on my home network. Setup was relatively easy, and if you have no open LAN ports on your router, you can pass a connection through the Airave 2 (it has 1 WAN and 2 LAN ports). As a previous reviewer wrote, if you contact sprint customer support and complain, they may send you one free of charge. Note: they will quote you a price nearly 3 times what amazon charges, before waiving the fee. The device remains their property, and you'd have to send it back if you end your contract. There is also a $5 monthly charge for using this device which they also may waive. It wound up costing me nothing, going through sprint.
