Amazon.com Product Description

This sleek clamshell phone packs a lot under the hood, making it one of the most powerful Sprint phones yet. Features include support for Sprint's awesome Power Vision high-speed data and media service, a 1.3 megapixel camera, advanced voice recognition, Bluetooth, a memory card slot, and music player functions. If you like to take your digital lifestyle on the go, the Samsung MM-A920 is the right tool for the job.

Design
The A920 boasts a big 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors. The outside cover of the handset features a supplementary 128 x 96 full-color display that can display pictures, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The camera lens is housed above this display while media control buttons are placed below. Up/down buttons are placed on the left side for volume control, while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. In addition to a 2.5 mm headset jack USB connectivity is provided, along with an included USB cable. The phone ships with a 32 MB microSD/TransFlash memory card, and you can place cards with up to 512 MB of memory in the phone's memory expansion slot.

Calling Features
The A920's internal phone book can hold up to 500 contacts, and the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures and ringtones to your most common callers. The phone ships with 29 polyphonic ringtones, but for those times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and advanced voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates easy. Simply say the name or number of the person you want to call and the number is dialed automatically without using the keypad. No prior voice training is needed. The A920's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911 (where available). And lastly, because the A920 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The A920 is a messaging powerhouse, with support for Sprint PCS picture and video mail services. Shoot high quality pictures and video clips with sound and instantly send them to email addresses and or other Sprint PCS phones that are compatible with picture and video mail services. Or upload them to the Sprint PCS pictures Web site (sprint.com/picturemail) to create albums. You can also use the A920 to send and receive email, exchange text messages, or join a chat room. Plus, the A920 features an embedded SMS voice messaging client for quickly sending voice messages to other wireless users or any working email addresses.

The real power of the A920 comes alive with Sprint's PCS Power Vision services. Relying on Sprint's new EV-DO high speed data network, Power Vision allows you to enjoy full-color video clips or live TV of the latest news, sports, and entertainment from CNN, Fox, The Weather Channel, and more.

You can also stream or download music to your phone with Sprint's Music Store service. Download stereo-quality, digital tracks instantly to your phone. Choose from hundreds of thousands of full-length songs from virtually every genre. Select songs directly from the phone and listen to them wherever you go. Even download them to your PC.

And last but not least, enhanced 3D games, personalized news and information tickers, and downloadable screen savers and ringtones are also available through the Power Vision service.

Sprint's high speed data network allows you to browse the Web like never before while you're on the go. Check out full-color versions of popular web sites or purchase and download premium applications to your Sprint Power Vision Phone. You can also use the included USB cable or Bluetooth to connect to a PC, allowing Internet and email access on your laptop wherever you roam.

The A920 is packed with useful tools to make your life more productive and fun. A voice memo recorder lets you record spoken voice notes, and the phone also includes an alarm clock, a calendar with a to-do list and a scheduler, a calculator, a stopwatch, and a world clock. A PC synchronization application makes it possible to sync your phone's data with your PC.

Imaging and Entertainment
As mentioned, the A920 features a powerful camera that can be used to capture and send video and still images. The camera also has an LED flash and a self-timer, as well as controls for brightness. Print pictures without using a PC by connecting directly with a PictBridge supported printer via USB. The phone's built-in media player lets you see and hear streaming and stored media, and it supports MP3, AAC, and AAC plus audio files. The phone takes gaming to the next level, too, with support for advanced, action-packed 3D games.

4.0 out of 5 stars I guess I can live with some of the quirks of this phone, July 21, 2006

Gerard (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sprint Samsung Power Vision Bluetooth Cell Phone (Wireless Phone)
I signed up for a Sprint plan with Power Vision and the Samsung A920 was the choice I made for a Power Vision capable phone. The GUI interface of the phone is fine and it was easy to add contacts that I had from my old phone. It was easy to connect this phone to my laptop to use as a modem. All I had to was install Sprint's Connection Manager software on my laptop, connect the phone through the usb port of my laptop, and I was surfing the net (albeit at a somewhat slow speed) through my A920. The phone has a TransFlash slot which can accept a MiniSD card that allows extra storage for media files such as photos and music files. I currently have a 1GB TransFlash card (yes, the A920 can fully recognize the 1GB TransFlash card) and I am able to play mp3s from it. The phone is also GPS capable so it can actually be used as a navagation device if you use software such as TeleNAV or Mobile Garmin. It's very nice watching streaming video and radio with this PowerVision phone. The resolution is alright, but what can you do when it's just a small phone.

Now here are my problems with the phone:

1) Battery life - I can probably talk for two hours on the standard battery before the 1 bar of power is left. That's sort of poor for battery life. Sure, you can get an extended battery, but it adds to the bulk of the phone.

2) The Camera - There's a delay between pressing the capture button and actually capturing the photo. That means the photo isn't immediately taken. You have to hold the camera for a couple of seconds after taking the photo before it actually captures the image. Otherwise you'll end up with a blurry picture if you immediately move the camera after pressing the capture button. This is very annoying.

3) The front lcd and bright red light is on when charging. It's annoying if you charge at night and you're trying to go to sleep, but can't since the bright light of the phone is annoying you.

4) The phone only comes with a data-only usb cable. There are usb cables that charge and are also data cables for this phone, but you have to buy it separately.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Phone Thus Far, August 17, 2006
This review is from: Sprint Samsung Power Vision Bluetooth Cell Phone (Wireless Phone)
I've owned this phone for a couple months now, and the device operates as an outstanding phone (good voice quality, no dropped calls, and at times I have access to the network where others using Sprint do not). The fit and finish are first rate, and it has survived a reasonable amount of wear and tear without any signs of damage. It's not the smallest phone, but I really think it's just right (I'm a big guy with big hands). I tend to use it with the extended battery, as I don't like to charge it more than once a week, and I don't mind the extra size of the extended battery. With the extended battery, a week without a charge is no problem, and I can use the web as much as I like without worrying about the phone dying from a lack of juice.

I have not had a chance to do much with MP3s, outside using them for ring tones, but I do like the ability to stick up to 1GB or transflash in the phone for storing songs and pictures. If I didn't have an iPod, I probably would use this as my primary music device (despite the annoying micro headphone jack). Besides the aforementioned headphone jack, I'm disappointed with the less than stellar Bluetooth performance (though it might be my Plantronics headset) and the fact that the phone lights up brightly when charging.

I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could, and my girlfriend is looking forward to getting one of her own when she's eligible for an upgrade.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone, May 27, 2006

This review is from: Sprint Samsung Power Vision Bluetooth Cell Phone (Wireless Phone)
I have to say I love this phone - with the exception of a few things which hopefully samsung will release a firmware update to fix:

No syncronization with any sort of PIM at all - not with bluetooth or the provided but useless USB cable which is used to "tether" the phone to a laptop for use as a modem

No way of reading wallpapers/screensavers/ringtones/games and assigning them or installing them from provided transflash card - or any transflash card.

The only way to add such things is to download them from the provider's site - Sprint in my case - for a fee or find an online service to send the files, which is a pain and sometimes still doesn't quite work.

I'm used to being able to add things like that almost on a whim, being a former Nextel phone user and modder but despite the drawbacks above I have to reccommend this phone to anyone looking for a really good phone to use for Sprint service. The MP3 player is excellent quality and is really limited only as how many transflash cards one uses and how much each card holds. If Samsung or Sprint fixes the above issues I'd be more than willing to give this phone 5 stars
