5.0 out of 5 stars Sprint Aircard 595U
I have been using this item for two years and am no longer under contract with Sprint. This works great right out of the box and will give you endless hours of fast broadband. I am very happy with mine and plan on keeping it, even though I no longer am bound by a contract.

2.0 out of 5 stars ***Item discontinued and NO support by SW ???
Aircard 595 U worked great for 4 years through Sprint service, then SW announced it was discontinuing support for this aircard Late in the Fall of 2009. Now my unit sometimes disconnects on the Sprint Network, even though I signed up for a UNLIMITED contract with Sprint. Sprint won't help me, says they will terminate contract if I change the device. Is there any way...

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy to be rid of the phone company! :o), June 4, 2008
This review is from: Sprint aircard 595U NO contract (Electronics)
I purchased this aircard for a few reasons. One because I travel a lot and have to take work with me when I go and two because I was finally able to get rid of the phone company. I was paying for cell service with one company and dsl/phone line through another company. Because I work from home, I have to have high-speed internet since I connect up to the server over the internet. When I had decided that I really did not like paying for two phone lines and a dsl line plus the extra it would cost me to turn on my aircard when I have to travel, I decided to look into getting an aircard that would work on broadband service at my home, and I found this one from Sprint. It is really nearly as fast as my dsl connection was and even though it does get a teensy bit slower during bad weather, it isnt much to have to get upset over or make me even miss dealing with the phone company. So I made the switch, got rid of the phone company and actually ended up saving myself about $65 per month, which is the cost of getting rid of dsl and the house phone, which never got used anyway since we pretty much work and live off of our cell phones. Not too mention, I dont have to worry about turning on or off my aircard anymore when I have to travel and be charged for that extra usage on top of dsl. Now I only have one way that I am connecting and can stay connected. No more hassles!!

Two thumbs up for me!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Catching Air like Jordan!, March 23, 2009
This review is from: Sprint aircard 595U NO contract (Electronics)
This cards wreaks of timeless awesome-ness. I have used it with UBUNTU, SUSE, and Dream distro's of Linux without the need to download any drivers. This card also works easily and flawlessly with Windows XP and Vista.

My card has services through Sprint, whom allocates public IP addresses to the card when logged into the ISP so you can forward router ports to your Apache servers and use Dynamic DNS services on the internet.

595u + Sprint + Cradlepoint MBR1000 EVDO Router = anything you want to do wirelessly accessing the internet. That's my configuration and I'm sticking to it!

In summation: life's a short trip and I'm going to be enjoying the ride! Enjoy yours!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works on ASUS eeepc 2G surf!, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Sprint aircard 595U NO contract (Electronics)
This is an excellent product. I bought this because I wanted to use my little ASUS eeepc wherever I went without worrying about WIFI connectivity.

It took a lot of research for me to find an EVDO device that would work with Xandros. I finally settled on Sprint Aircard 595U, though mine came with a contract.

Installing on an ASUS was not easy for me, because I didn't know Linux well and the software it came with doesn't install on the eeepc. It took me three whole days to finally figure it out, and if I had to tell you what I did, I couldn't do it. There are instructions posted all over the internet, which sometimes assumed the reader knows Linux. One kind poster wrote step-by-step instructions which I finally stumbled upon and it worked! Once it's up and running, it's easy to make a connection.

The connection speed is fast. I watched a whole TV episode on my ASUS with it a few times. Of course, there is the occasional pause as the show downloads, but it's no slower than my DSL or cable modem were.

Once I got it working on my ASUS, I installed the software on my home computers which run Windows XP, and now it is the only high speed internet connection I have.

I can get reception anywhere there is cell phone service. I used it all up and down the 99 and the 5 in California as we were traveling. The only place I ever have problems is at my in-law's rural house, but I can't any cell phone coverage there, either.

I am never going back to any service requiring my internet service to be tethered down by a cable or wire. Why would I? This is so portable. I can carry the 595U from one room to the other, stick it on my home computer or my notebook. Once my husband tried it, he was a convert, too. I highly recommend this unit.

UPDATE: I have used this modem on my kitchen computer, which uses Windows XP, my office computer, which uses Vista, and my netbook, which uses Windows 7 starter. I don't have problems on any of them. Reception is good wherever my Verizon cell phone has service, even though this modem uses Sprint. When I travel California up and down Interstate 5, I get good service. More modern modems are smaller and more compact, but I still use my 595U.

Now my unit sometimes disconnects on the Sprint Network, even though I signed up for a UNLIMITED contract with Sprint. Sprint won't help me, says they will terminate contract if I change the device. Is there any way to change the Digital card in this device to another device just like you do a mobile phone? Anyone know? This modem which has a auxiliary battery keeps giving me red LED PWR light then it disconnects. I have bought 4 new batteries for the thing & none, NONE of them will revive this thing when it disconnects. Seems to be a Catch 22 affair designed to abandon Sprint customers who signed up under the Unlimited plan as charter members of the Sprint Mobile Broadband network..
