I've owned this shower head for about a year. It works as advertised and I'm happy to shower clorine free. I'm especially pleased to have no calcium residual clogging up the spray.

HOWEVER...I'm surprised no one has mentioned the following problem. To establish a leakproof seal when replacing the filters, one has to vaseline the rubber seals. Otherwise...

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
I have noticed others have said it doesn't filter the water as well as some other models. I can't speak to that statistic, because I have never measure the difference in water quality, though I would be curious to do that one day. All I can say about that is now that I have had mine long enough for the filter to quit working, I can absolutely see a huge difference in the time range (1) before I bought the filter, (2) when it was working at peak performance, and (3) after it ran out. My skin started to feel dry and my hair turned to straw, and the water just didn't feel as "clean" and soft - a clear indicator it was time to change filters.

Lastly, it's touted as a handheld showerhead, but my shower happens to be high enough and angled in such a way that I actually use it as a regular shower as well. And I love the fact that it has a good range of adjustable speeds.

I'm not sure about the claims of 6 - 12 months of filter usage. I was told by Sprite that the filters should be replaced every two months. Of course, that depends on how much the shower gets used - a single person versus a family of four will have different outputs. Specifically, it's supposed to be good for 3000 gallons, and uses 2.5 gallons per minute, so it's easy to calculate the projected life of the filter by how many showers are taken each day, and the duration of each shower.

There may be other filters that work better for cleaning every little thing from the water, and I would be curious to test them one day. But my skin and hair seem happy with this one, and for the price, I am happy too.

I also have to say I am very, very happy with their customer service. I went to change my filter for the first time last week, and the plastic portion where the two pieces screw together broke. It has a year warranty, so I called them, and they immediately called me back, were very cordial and helpful, and within hours, my new shower replacement parts were on their way. Two days later, they were in my mailbox, and I'm back in business. A business gets put to the ultimate test when things go wrong, and I'm very happy with the way my issue was handled.

3.0 out of 5 stars tempermental filter replacement process, September 26, 2009

I've owned this shower head for about a year. It works as advertised and I'm happy to shower clorine free. I'm especially pleased to have no calcium residual clogging up the spray.

HOWEVER...I'm surprised no one has mentioned the following problem. To establish a leakproof seal when replacing the filters, one has to vaseline the rubber seals. Otherwise the water bypasses the filter and squirts out the threads between the head and body of the device. You've got to get the vaseline evenly spread or it won't work. you're supposed to reverse the direction of the filter every month and replace on the third month. The body of the filter gets gross with vaseline and the whole process becomes messy and unpleasant.

But I'm sticking with it because I like the performance.

UPDATE: I cleaned the whole thing thoroughly recently, used minmal vaseline the first time and I've used none the last two times with no problem. Maybe some of my issues are user error?

5.0 out of 5 stars works great!, April 2, 2008
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
I have noticed a big difference with using this filter. My hair is more manageable, less tangles and less breakage. Not to mention my blonde hair no longer gets rusty colored. Plus the shampoo/body wash has more lather. For the price and 6-12 month replacement factor, it deserves 5-stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars not bad but there are better solutions including from Sprite, February 20, 2010
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
This item seems to work but I only gave it two stars as I would not buy it again. I installed (easy enough) in our master bathroom. The price had just dropped to $30 at a hardware store. The handle is very long as it needs to integrate the long skinny filter. Because of this it sits significantly higher than any hand held shower massager I've ever tried. We need to be careful to angle it downward in order to make sure we aren't spraying water over the back shower wall. The only other negative is that these long skinny filters are rated for only 3 months of typical use compared to 6 months of typical use for the non-hand held models.

For my daughter's bathroom I decided to install a non-hand held Sprite filter and put a hand held mount underneath that. This was I could choose from a much bigger selection of shower heads (simple non-adjustable non-massaging was my choice as these last longer). There were no leaks. I will have to replace the filters half as often for her bathroom than I will for ours and the height of the shower head when placed on the mount is much better. If I had to do ours again I would do it how I did my daughter's.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with our well water, February 2, 2009
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
After researching this product, I bought it because of its claims to reduce the amount of iron in the water. We either have a lot of iron or it doesn't work. Either way, it is not filtering out the iron. Like another review, I also had problems with leaking, which never happened with other shower heads I have installed. I cannot rate the chlorine filtering because I have well water, but I wouldn't recommend it for iron.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage Plastic Bracket, November 2, 2011
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
This item is a replacement for one I have had for approximately 7 yrs. It looks identical except for the garbage plastic bracket. It looks like solid metal but.......when I put the handle into the bracket it promptly broke and is not reparable. Fortunately I was able to 'dumpster dive' into my recycle bin and retrieve my original metal bracket. Shame on the manufacturer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, Ecellent For Tall People, But Replacing The Filter Cartridges Can Be A Hassle, August 3, 2010

HELLO AGAIN AMAZON FANS EVERWHERE!!

The public water supply in this area of western Ma is heavily chlorinated; without exaggeration, it often smells like swimming pool water coming out of the tap. As such we use a filter for our shower and another type of filter for our kitchen faucet: PUR 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount WhiteFM-9600B.

We have used this filter a couple years now & we noticed an immediate difference in both the smell of the water and how our skin and hair felt once we started using the device.

This was the second shower filter my wife purchased; the first worked well, but the design extended the length of the shower faucet so far down that I had to bend through my knees quite a bit to fit my 6 foot body under the stream which aggravated me immensely. This unit though screws onto the end of the faucet in a way that raises it up at least 10 inches further then even the original shower head. As an extra bonus the hose allows you to easily remove the shower head and use it to rinse off either yourself or the tub & shower while cleaning.

I do not often switch the water stream off the regular setting, but when I need a little massaging action on a sore back or shoulders it is nice feature to have.

Although I have not had any issues with leaking from a poorly sealed cartridge, as a couple others mentioned, the one nuisance I can report is in changing the cartridges. The original cartridges we got with the unit and refills we purchased earlier were solid white in color. A number of months back I noticed that the the new cartridges we were getting were clear and allowed you to see the filter materials inside. However, I think that since the change in color, it has been my experience, that the new filter cartridge did not simply drop in to the bottom of the unit, rather it was pressed in and seated as I threaded on the shower end. There is where the trouble lies; I have a devil of a time wrestling out the old cartridge.

I like the way the filter mounts to the shower faucet; the extra height is a blessing, I like the filters performance and the easy way you can remove the head unit from its base, I just wish it was not such a PIA to replace the cartridges (I end up removing the hose as well, then pressing something through that opening to push the cartridge out). It is a bit of a challlenge for me, it might be near impossible for my wife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for hard water, January 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
If you have hard water like me, this shower filter is a must-have. In fact, I can tell when it's time to change the filter, because my hair gets frizzy and my skin gets rough and dry. While the filters aren't cheap, it's well worth the money for nice skin and hair.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but not perfect, January 17, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
This thing has a good spray pattern and it seems to help water quality...the water smells better now. The handle is fairly comfortable to hold onto.
The bad points:
-Plastic adapter/mounting fixture feels like it will break if I tighten it enough to stop the leaks.
-Spray nozzle holder is somewhat small compared to the actual nozzle neck so it just barely barely sits in the holder.

However, I do like it and I believe if I don't abuse it I'll have this filter/sprayer for a long time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Trouble changing filters, December 23, 2011
This review is from: Sprite Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter pre-installed
I've been using this filter for about a year and a half and while it does the job and the price was right, the filters are an absolute nightmare to remove. Every time the filter is due for a change I dread the 30 minutes it takes to wrestle the old one out of the handset. The one I just removed made a mess, since it was destroyed in the process. Would not recommend to anyone who does not have a great deal of hand strength and patience.
