5.0 out of 5 stars BEST SPROUTING TRAYS I EVER BOUGHT. A+++++
I am a sprouter. I have tried all the methods. Mason jars, Hemp bags, etc. etc. etc.
Nothing beats the round green trays. They take up NO room whatsoever. They fit in the teeniest, tiniest spaces. They stack one on top of the other. Oh, they DO NOT DRIP ON INTO THE OTHER, for example, you don't pour water on the top and the water goes into the bottom. These trays...

1.0 out of 5 stars sprout garden
Misleading description, I thought from the picture that you could pour water through the top hole, but you have to take it apart each time and water and drain. It is unwieldy to stack.

These trays don't work like that. When I want to give my sprouts a cool drink, I simply fill a bowl with cool water (I add a few drops of liquid kelp by the way (so this is a BIG hint to sprouters), Look up Liquid Kelp. So I simply take each tray and dunk and set it on the drainboard by the sink. After a few minutes, they have drained into my sink, and then I stack them. After 4 or so days, each tray is filled to the top with plumb BEAUTIFUL sprouts, but now they are ready to be greened up (filled with chlorophyll)so what do I do? I set them on my shelves, one tray next to another, so I have 3 trays on each shelf. (I use book shelves). I have a pole lamp with 3 lights. I simply bring the pole lamp in front of the shelves, turn on the pole light and in a few hours, my sprouts are NICE AND PLUMB AND GREEN. You can't put sprouts in the sun, they will get cooked. This way is easy, fun and VERY ECONOMICAL. So Happy Sprouting!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids love sprouts!, March 29, 2007
This review is from: Sprout Garden 3 Tray Family Sprouting Kit - Includes: Sprouter, Drainboard, Covers, 3 Sprouting Trays, 2 Oz of Certified Organic Alfalfa Seed, Instructions. Grow Healthy Fresh Sprouts in Your Own Kitchen!
This is a pretty solid sprouting system. There are 3 trays, and they allow you to grow a pretty good variety of different sprout mixes at the same time. It's stackable so it doesn't take up alot of space, and it is very easy to grow sprouts. Some of the sprouts my kids aren't big on, but I can't sprout enough lentils! They pick them clean as a snack. I am guessing that's a good thing. :^)

4.0 out of 5 stars I might need a second one, January 28, 2009
This review is from: Sprout Garden 3 Tray Family Sprouting Kit - Includes: Sprouter, Drainboard, Covers, 3 Sprouting Trays, 2 Oz of Certified Organic Alfalfa Seed, Instructions. Grow Healthy Fresh Sprouts in Your Own Kitchen!
I must say I love my sprouter. The holes are small and only on the edges so I don't have the roots all growing down to the next level like I do with another of my small sprouters.
I have found that 2 to 3 tablespoons of leafy seed fills it wonderfully with strong growth. It is also good at growing mung beans but I'm finding myself eating so many green sprouts I do not like to "waste" the space with beans so I just grow them in a crock.
I have seen recomendations of eating up to six cups a day of mixed sprouts (not alfalfa) I think I must be close. For a simple, easy, no nonsense sprouter this is one of the best. Like I said I'm ordering a second one so I can just grow them up.

I have owned this style of sprouter for 40 years. I love it and am still using my 40 year old one.

I just bought three more. One for each of my kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice item, but some flaws, December 18, 2010

This review is from: Sprout Garden 3 Tray Family Sprouting Kit - Includes: Sprouter, Drainboard, Covers, 3 Sprouting Trays, 2 Oz of Certified Organic Alfalfa Seed, Instructions. Grow Healthy Fresh Sprouts in Your Own Kitchen!
Overall, this is a nice item and performs its function quite nicely. However, there are some manufacturing flaws that may be in this product. The problem is in the holes around the perimeter of the sprouting trays. Although many were molded properly, in some cases, a good number (between 1/4 and 1/3 of them, and perhaps just a bit more) were closed. Once can see the indentation where a hole should be, but the mold was evidently worn so that a thin layer of plastic was sealing the place that should have been a drainage hole. Multiply this by a large number of them, and it becomes an issue. The water can't drain properly.

A little work with a small rotary tool or even a sturdy straight pin can open the holes up, but this is a flaw that should not make it past quality control.

One other little quibble: The recommended amount of sprouting seeds or beans listed is too great a quantity for a "per tray" listing. Especially with something like mung beans, which swell up greatly, the amount listed will literally push the top up as they sprout. It is likely that the amount listed should have been divided among the three trays. It would have worked better that way.

The bottom line: I would buy this item again seeing that I wanted to get back into sprouting and had used jars before with varied success. The trays are somewhat easier for the rinsing process, and given that we have a lack of space in which to put jars to keep them out of the light, the ability to set these trays on a convenient flat surface is a big plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars best sprouter for small seeds, April 4, 2011

This review is from: Sprout Garden 3 Tray Family Sprouting Kit - Includes: Sprouter, Drainboard, Covers, 3 Sprouting Trays, 2 Oz of Certified Organic Alfalfa Seed, Instructions. Grow Healthy Fresh Sprouts in Your Own Kitchen!
This is an easy-to-use sprouter that doesn't take up much counter space. I also have the EasySprout which is fine for beans, but I found it unsatisfactory for the small, leafy sprouts. In the SproutGarden, they have more room and grow higher with fewer unsprouted seeds. It is easy to drain if you run your fingers under the bottom to break the water tension. When soaking the seeds prior to sprouting, however, it is better to soak them in a jar or glass dish,m because if you soak them in the bottom of the SproutGarden, the ridges make removing the seeds difficult. All in all, it is a fine sprouter at a good price. Wish I had it years ago. Happy sprouting!

Love it, a nice design that makes it easy to grow your own sprouts. At first I didn't figure out how to stack the trays for best use. Once you realize that the first lid goes upside down as a base and then the screen tray sits on top of it you'll appreciate the design and how easy it is to grow multiple trays simultaneously.
No issues so far.

These work pretty well and they don't take a lot of space.
Pros
Space saving
Good for beans
Cons
Small seeds get caught in the drain holes, so don't drain well
Not designed well for soaking - I put the strainer inside the stacking bowl, but they don't stack well in this configuration

Great for mung, lentil, adzuki and other beans. I haven't tried using it for grains, but will probably use bags for that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy with my sprouter, October 31, 2011

This review is from: Sprout Garden 3 Tray Family Sprouting Kit - Includes: Sprouter, Drainboard, Covers, 3 Sprouting Trays, 2 Oz of Certified Organic Alfalfa Seed, Instructions. Grow Healthy Fresh Sprouts in Your Own Kitchen!
So far my sprouter has been great. The biggest problem I had in the beginning was that the instructions were not clear to me at all. I am currently sprouting mung beans and the instructions say to use a cup of beans. That was way too much. I had to divide the beans over two separate trays and it is still too much. The alfalfa sprouts turned out great. Again the problem was that in one place on the instructions it said to use 1 1/2 tbsp. and in another it said 2 1/2 tablespoons. Of course I used 2 1/2 and it was way too much again. The instructions also say to cover the sprouts and in the next sentence, they say it is not necessary to cover the sprouts. I just need clearer instructions. The chart is very vague as well. The headings are not specific enough, so I had trouble understanding what each column was trying to tell me. Other than instruction problems, the actual sprouter has been great. It has just been a trial and error type thing.

I think this is the best sprouter on the market for making lots of sprouts. It sprouted faster than others I have tried and is easy to rinse without losing the sprouts down the sink. Simple to clean etc. I have sprouted peas, spelt and salad mixes in this with excellent results.
