Picks up where September Sessions left off...,
By cactus grooves "Joe" (Maricopa, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sprout (Audio CD)
I purchased this album after enjoying the previous September Sessions disc from Brushfire Records. The album as a whole is captivating and worth multiple listens. The mix is eclectic and the sequence of tracks results in a nice flow. This is a good one for listening at the beach, driving across the desert, winding down a wild night early the next morning, etc. If you liked September Sessions, you're likely to find this album an improvement on an already intriguing concept...

Mellow, jazzy surfing music,
By Rannulph Junuh (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews

Any fans of Jack Johnson's "Thicker than Water" and "A Brokedown Melody" soundtracks will enjoy this compilation; infact, Jack Johnson himself plays quietly as part of the "Sprout House Band" on tracks 7 and 12 (instrumentals). This CD differs somewhat from the above two in that it infuses a little more jazz into the soundtrack than the other two do. Other than that, the CD is very simliar to them - a very eclectic collection of lesser-known indie musicians all playing mellifluous melodies, each song flowing seamlessly into the next.

Pleasantly surprised,

I listened to a couple of the snippets on amazon before buying this album. I've previously bought some of the other Woodshed film soundtracks (September Sessions, Thicker Than Water, Brokedown Melody). Sprout is different. It has a a more subdued feel. There are even a few tracks that are downright Jazz. I was pleasantly surprised, if you are looking for some background, mood music. This album definitely creates that relaxed atmosphere.

One for the archives,

I'm a surfer and have generally not been into the whole surf movie thing but I got Sprout and thought it was a good show. The music was pretty good as well and I put this in the iTunes to play as background on the weekends when I'm just hacking around the house or if I'm just thinking about the beach when there's no waves.
If you're into the whole shredder, aggro, bro-dude scene this probably isn't for you. Stick with something loud like the Suicide Machines and have fun with all that. But if you're into trying new things and looking for a different line than the rest of the heads out there then book the trip and bring this along.

I don't surf, never have.
This cd has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it playing in a kitchen I ran. Perfect background tunes for a relaxing drive, or cooking in a kitchen! I can't say enough good stuff about the soundtrack, and every person that likes a variety of different types of music should have this beauty in their collection. The company got it to me in perfect condition really really FAST! I've been enjoying it ever since, thanks guys!

I'd really give `Sprout' 4 ½ stars, but Amazon doesn't let you do that. First off, this is a great, all-around album; a combination of instrumental jam fests and some smooth melodic vocals. I'm not a musical expert, just a huge fan of great tunes. Have yet to see the movie but have been listening to this non-stop for about a year.
"Practice Twice" - great kick-off, you can almost imagine yourself spending a lazy Sunday, catching some easy waves or even a fall afternoon on some back country roads "Stolen Moments" - a beautiful jazz piece, I'm not a jazz expert but have dabbled in some Miles Davis, I love the ups and downs on this "On The Low" - honestly, I never listen to this "Of The Periphery" - this is a great chill-out song, for some reason I think of aquariums when I here this and the ocean "Find Enjoyment" - in this song, so jamming, so rocking, so smooth; makes me wish so badly I could play beyond air guitar "When I Goose Step" - huge Shins fans and this was more than a pleasant surprise. Feels like on a surfboard in a 50's surf movie, an awesome one, not a cheesy one "Butter Nut" - another sweet jam-out, what I love about these, is that they use a few different instruments then you'd usually hear "By Fist And Fury" - this is a much faster instrumental than the rest but still really sweet, I love the guitar/organ jam (can't tell) about a minute and a half into it "Salt The Skies" - another song I don't always listen to, a bit of craziness thrown into the mix, just have to be in the mood "Banderilla" - a sexy, mexican-influenced jam, you can just picture a late night in some dive bar in Tijuana drinking beers and tequila, watching the mariachi band and some Spanish dancing. Beautiful. "Demon Lover" - another song don't really listen to that much "Spanish Flowers" - something about this leaves me in a melancholy trance. A bit of sadness and a touch of sweetness, this is a huge favorite "Rained" - this is a lazy afternoon song; you can smell the clean air and the bright sun on your sleepy eyes "Got My Sunshine" - a sort of wildcard of the bunch, at first you don't think so but when the chorus kicks in with their soulful "Got my sunshine, I'll get by," this is a sort of feel good moment |
