Product Description

Sprouting TipsPlace two tablespoons of seeds or 1/2 cup of legumes/grains in a sprouting jar with three times as much water as sees. Soak overnight. For many small seeds, five hours of soaking is sufficient.Drain the water from the jar. Rinse seeds in fresh, luke-warm water and drain again. For well drained seeds/sprouts, lay jar at an angle in a warm (70F), dark place.Rinse and drain seeds twice a day. In hot and dry weather, you may need to rinse the seeds three times a day. In very humid weather, the seeds should be kept in a dry place. Turn jar over gently. Overturning the jar rapidly will cause shifting in the sprouting seeds. This can break the tender shoots and kill the sprout. This breakage causes the sprout to spoil. Sprouts should be ready to eat in 3-5 days, depending on the seed used.

Threw it in the trash.

I just assumed that these would fit a standard Ball/Kerr mason jar and they do not.

I have another plastic lid that easily screws onto standard canning jars.

Bought these lids and was disapointed that they didn't fit my wide mouthed KERR brand canning jars. In the end, just used the mesh pieces with the normal screw top that came with the jar. Plastic pieces wouldn't thread right onto the jar.

Once I broke the death grip the first of these plastic lids had on my wide mouth ball canning jar I immediately canned the whole bunch - except for the meshes. The mesh covers work perfectly with the metal rings that came with my jars. I'll soak my sprouts (anything from small wheat berries to mung beans and beyond) with the solid lid on, then swap it out for a mesh screen, drain, and start sprouting by rinsing a couple times a day. I never have to remove the mesh lids after the initial soak because I can simply fill up the jars through the meshes, swirl it around a bit, and then drain right there. Incredibly convenient. However, you are paying for the plastic screw-ons as well which are a total nightmare, so no five star rating.

Although it doesn't screw on to a standard wide mouth jar properly, I still prefer this lid to others. It still goes on the jar okay. It is very easy to clean. And the lid is kind of rubbery so it sticks to a plate when I have it tilted at an angle to drain. Plastic and metal lids slide and fall too easily. So while this lid isn't perfect, it is my favorite.

The two stars are not because of the misrepresentation but because the lid is still useful rather than returning for refund.

This lid is being misrepresented as 'fitting most wide mouth jars'. When you purchase canning rings it does not say 'will fit most wide mouth jars' it states right on the package that 'these rings fit wide mouth jars'.
There are basically two, maybe three makers of canning jars today and these lids will not fit.

Everyone that sells Now Sprouting Jar Lid and copies the item description From Now is misrepresenting these lids.

That being said, the jar lid is not a total loss. By removing the screen and placing it in a wide mouth ring.

Not saying that these special lids don't work. I'm sure they do...as long as they fit the screw-tops of whatever jars you're using. However, I just buy heavy-mesh pantyhose, cut and knot one end of each 3-inch section, stretch them over my wide-mouthed Ball jars and use the outer lid to screw down and secure the mesh in place. Works like a charm. The only disadvantage is that the mesh unravels after a few uses so, maybe, in the end, these specialized lids might be more cost-effective.

Food for thought.

Actually, I decided to purchase a couple of these lids and have changed my original opinion 100%. These work great on WIDE-MOUTHED 'Ball' jars and, being solid plastic there is not much chance of getting any dye or other chemicals mixed in with the sprouts, as with pantyhose. I have become a Believer and will purchasing a couple more of these so I can keep rotating my sprouts, since I use them extensively!!!

I used it; it worked for my purpose. However, I could not get it to screw
ON to a wide-mouth mason jar; finally found that plain brute force worked to
seat it securely on the wide-mouth.

To remove it all I had to do was UN-screw it! Go figure!
Disassembled easily for through washing & drying. Reassembled easily, as well.

I just assumed that these would fit a standard Ball/Kerr mason jar and they do not. From the multiple one-star reviews of customers with the same experience I can only blame myslef for making what I thought was a no-brainer assumption and not checking reviews first. On the other hand, the reviews may have come in during the two weeks delivery time.

You can use a plain jar when you have these lids. No expensive sprouters, just lid on jars and sprouts. Uncomplicated, like life should be.
