Does not cool....Doses not blow...does make heat.
Michelle Nielsen
In comparison and conclusion I suggest making every effort to go with the standard window unit.

The heat has been relentless in the 90s that feels like 100 with the humidity.

I did a lot of research before choosing to get this unit. I was gonna buy another model from the local Abt store and have it delivered, but the salesman was so rude I decided against it. He basically was trying to talk me out of getting one, saying they didn't work as well as a regular window unit. Duh. Truth is, I gave away a new aircon when I moved here because there was a unit in the window. Big mistake. It was a piece of crap -- barely worked at all. I vowed to get a portable one for convenience sake.

Then the Abt guy told me that it took hours to assemble the exhaust for the window. That may have been for their units, but I didn't find that at all. In fact, setup for this unit could not have been easier.

I toyed with getting a more powerful aircon but went with this since it was for such a small space. I was right since this space is probably not more than 400 or so sq ft. Because it's been relatively nice out here in Chicago - I haven't had the need until a few weeks ago - mid June. Then didn't need it until mid July.

I watched a YouTube video to get an idea of how these machines work. All I had to do was twist the exhaust tube onto the machine and then the window piece. No cutting and I didn't even really need to use the screws for the adapter into the window. The adapter just slides in according to size and stays in place on its own. No gaps, either. I savor my windows so I'll be removing it every chance I get because I'd rather have fresh air when I can get it.

I keep the bathroom door ajar and I notice it is stuffy in there, which I don't care about. When I turned it on I could feel the cool air and instantly felt it working. It worked really quickly in cooling the room down and it also carried over to the adjacent room.

The unit arrived on time and I was pleased with the compact size and ease of movement with the rollers on the bottom. Simple instructions that get you up and running quickly. I used a standard clothes dryer exhaust vent from the local hardware store that matches perfectly the supplied flex exhaust hose with the unit. Cut a small hole in wall for drain hose (needed for heater) and was set to go. This unit cools extremely well...heat pump avoids the flame or hot wires found in space heaters. Ideal for small room comfort. I have been very pleased in both
hot and cold outside temps with this compact and lightweight unit. A smart buy for anyone who wants quality and simplicity.

I have two of these - one in our bedroom and one in our t.v. room... not sure why another reviewer talked about the reservoirs filling too quickly, as these units do not HAVE reservoirs (which is lovely, IMHO). I had forgotten to write reviews on it, but popped by here looking for a hose link (our dogs constantly jump over the one on the t.v. room unit as they race out the back door, thus leading to extensive issues w/ the hose having to be duct-taped repeatedly - not the unit's fault!). I have long searched for a mobile unit that will hit my temperature happy zone (56-62). These units only go down to 62, but that's mostly good enough. Do NOT expect to go from 100+ down to 62... the units can only do so much! Last week we had a terrible hot patch here in Torrance, and when I got home at 6:30 it was 98 in our t.v. room. The unit was able to get it down to about 72 in about half an hour... definitely worth the money, the units last for YEARS, and we have been very happy w/ performance.

I have had no problems with this unit so far and have been using it daily for the past month or so in the worst part of the summer. The seer rating on this unit is almost 10, so it out classes most other portables in it's BTU range. Not as efficient as a mini split, but not wasteful like the easiest option to get my hands on at a local store. Their seer ratings were around 8-9, plus there's heat. Would buy again and recommend to others. To the users complaining about the internal tank size you should consider trying to look for solutions to that problem besides complaining about it. I've got mine dripping into a 40 gallon reservoir so I don't have to change it out as much, but it's a very efficient unit so there's a trade off. Think outside the box and you'll appreciate this unit. Although my only criticisms are that there is no timer nor can I use one at the electrical socket as when the power comes back on, the unit will still be off.

This is my second SPT Air conditioner - and I LOVE them --I have a rolling one in my bedroom and now I got this one with the heater. I love this product and it's so easy to use and move around and empty out. I highly recommend the rolling a/c to anyone who doesn't have central air. Beats having to have someone lift the old clunker in and out of the window year in and year out. The remote makes it easy to adjust in bed at night without getting up and I can't wait to try the heater come winter! A Five ***** for me for SURE!

The description for this ac states that it dehumidifies during cooling and heating and that's not accurate at all. The ac doesn't reduce humidity at all and after a period of use it builds up condensation on the front and sides. Humidity only goes up.
