Try the app now
Try this app right now on your computer. You control the app with your mouse and keyboard to experience it like you would on your phone. Test drive this app before you buy.
How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic app for those that share the Kindle with kids December 15, 2011
Verified Purchase
my dilemma was that I have a six and nine year old that share my new Kindle fire and even though I taught them not to go on the app store, unapproved web sites, or amazon videos... kids will be kids and they are curious. (I used to sneak a peak at any R rated show on HBO) Not to mention that it is very easy to accidentally touch an advertisement.
That said, my requirements are simple:
1. selectively turn off and on security for individual apps
2. make it simple for me to get around the security when I am on the Kindle.
3. do not change the interface (view screen)

The "Smart App Protector " hits all these requirements, plus they made the setup very easy. The only negative I can say is that they call the place where you want to select apps for lock down "running apps ", which makes no sense to me. It should be called "Lock Apps " or something more direct. But that is being picky.
This is definitely a home run security application and a perfect for anyone that has kids sharing their Kindle Fire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Kindle Fire January 5, 2012

I have been using this app for a few weeks on the Kindle Fire. It provides the protection and security that the Kindle Fire lacks if you share it with family members.
I was able to easily secure my e-mail, contacts, calendars, etc... with a single password. Very easy to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is great December 22, 2011

I love it. no more having to enter my long email and password for my journal app- it's. already locked! And my apps that don't have a lock built in can also be private. This App Protector is free, simple, and easy to use, which is why I kept it out of all the app locks I tried.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful. January 4, 2013
Verified Purchase
I have this app on my Android Optimus V. It works fine on the phone, but it's a piece of crap on my Kindle Fire HD. It pops up multiple times on one page. There is a complete lack of protection on my other apps while it's overactive on Silk. I've uninstalled it before, but I decided to give it another go. I won't make that mistake again. I'm just glad I didn't waste my money on the paid app.

It's really quite sad. There aren't many free locks for apps for a Kindle. I expected so much more from this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works on Kindle Fire HD September 17, 2012
Verified Purchase
As of the date of my review, it works just fine on the Kindle Fire HD. This application allows you to assert access controls on a "per app" basis.

Before opening it for the first time, change the Device --> "Allow Installation of Applications" setting to "On." This is so the application, during setup, can download and install the "Helper" application; that will prevent other apps from trying to kill-off the main app. After the helper app is installed; remember to change the setting back to "Off."

The product does exactly what it says it does on the Kindle Fire. It is easy to set up and allows you to choose specific apps to add an access codes. It is nice to have to prevent accidental purchases, since the KF is tied to your amazon account.

5.0 out of 5 stars supervising access to electronic devices January 20, 2012
Verified Purchase
With three young teens eggar to play, read on, and explore electronic devices this lock app has allowed me to control their accessing this device unsupervised. It is way too easy to "accidentally" retrieve inappropriate information off the Internet ... here is a means to curb/stop those accidents ... and it's free.
