I got this toy for my 6 and 8 year old nephews for Hanukkah (2010). I was a little skeptical when I got it in the mail, because the box was pretty small and light. However, this later proved to be irrelevant. My nephews adore this toy, and they have been playing with it non-stop since I gave it to them a couple of weeks ago. Take note however, that they'll need to do little handywork in setting the toy up. My nephews were able to read the instructions and prepare the toy themselves (they had to use a mini screwdriver to unlatch the casing to install the batteries), but that took only a matter of minutes. The box comes with two sets each of a receiver/gun combo that the kids wear. The toys light up and make a lot of "laser" noises when a shot is fired or when a shot is registered. They seem quite durable. In summary, I would highly recommend this as a gift for young children (girls and boys).

Overview
Several years ago i had purchased the "old" laser tag system from Jakks. They eventually broke after about two years of use and i was delighted to find that they had rereleased them. These laser tag pistols are small and light but dont let that deceive you! They are reliable, very sturdy, and they have surprising range and accuracy you can easily hit somebody at 300 ft. The gun itself has a reload, reset and neutralize button. After 25 "shots" the gun clicks empty and you have to hit the reload button to get more ammo. The reset button is annoying being right were a right handed persons thumb would be and is easy to accidentally hit. Its ok though because you can only reset the other player by pointing your gun at them and pressing the reset button. If you hit the other person by pressing the neutralize button then their gun is frozen(meaning they cant shoot) for 15 seconds. They work really well and though they are better for close combat, I do not advise using them inside because the IR beams bounce off white walls easily and you dont even have to aim.
Pros
-accurate
-sturdy yet light
-strong (they have been dropped several times and still work perfectly.)
-better range than it says on the box
-nice loud noises( pro or a con)
Cons
-short wires( about two feet) so if you have long arms its best to put the sensor on your shooting arm
-cant play indoors very well
-hard to tell when you've hit someone
-loud noises( pro or a con)
Conclusion
I would recommend these to any one who wants an inexpensive laser tag game that will last a long time and keep the fun factor.

Note on my video: It was taken using the Jaxx Pacific Night Vision Binoculars (Spy Net Night Vision Infrared Stealth Recording Binoculars w/128MB Memory and 1GB USB Drive), so the video quality suffers. However, it lets me see the light the guns use (invisible to human eyes). In fact the room was pitch black. I have a similar video review on the binoculars which are really cool.

Actual Item:
I picked these up hoping for an IR laser. Alas, these do not use lasers, and says so on the instructions included with the toy. This is actually a very good thing. If they were lasers, kids would almost never score a hit on the sensors. As my video shows, they are not very good for inside play. However, I did test them outside on a sunny day and with proper aim got the sensors to register hits at a range of ~150 feet. They fire invisible IR lights so are not a danger to kids' eyes.

As much as they might be frowned upon for possibly teaching kids that guns are toys, they have the benefit of engaging kids and getting them up and moving outside (no small feat in the Xbox world in which we live). Notice what I said in the video, these do not work well inside for many false positive hits. In general I think it is a cool little toy and would have loved to have it when I was a kid. I shall check with my sister to see if she thinks it is appropriate for my nephews, I think it will add to the stomp rockets as a toy that gets them up and outside.

I purchased this item for my childrens Christmas gift. What fun it has been. This takes me back to my childhood playing with the old 'LazerTag' system. The Laser Strike has more options and even a "Time-Out" button. My children ages 7-11-14 really get into this outside during the evenings. It has great distance and accuracy.

We have four of these. We have two children (5 & 10). We all love to play together...especially fun at night with all the lights turned off. If you want something extremely precise, these are not the guns for you, but if you just want to play with the kids, these are great. They do bounce off walls sometimes, but it's not that noticeable. The target can either strap around your arm or clip on your pants or belt. The strap doesn't stay tight and it ends up slipping down, so for kids the pants/belt clip is the best. My husband can barely get the strap around his upper arm and if an adult clips it at their waist, the cord between the target and the gun is not really long enough. My husband and I end up clipping it on the top of our shirt (it falls off every now and then) or just holding it with the hand you're not shooting with. I guess you could make another strap to go on it. For the price, this is a small inconvenience. You're only gonna play about 4 games at a time before the adults are ready to rest! We've played about 5 different sessions (approx 4 games each) since we got these and the batteries have held up so far. I guess it depends on your budget and what you're looking for. We love these and would buy them again.
