More About the Author

I was born in 1982 (no, really) in the north of England. When I was two, we moved to the south-east of England. Then for a bunch of time nothing happened, until the summer after my GCSEs when I was bored and sat down to write a story. Then I wrote another. Then another. Many, many terrible attempts later, I gave up and got a job at Stansted Airport, where I worked before, during and after 9/11, checking in passengers and baggage for a low-cost airline.

After I quit, I came up with the idea for Sophie. If you want to know exactly how, you can read about it here. Since then, writing's been my main focus, although in the meantime I've done things I'm not proud of. My job history involve lots of sweeping and many instances of ignoring a ringing phone. I've been known to get up at 3.30am or work until 11pm. Now, of course, I take great pains to avoid all those things. Except for 11pm. I'm rather fond of that.

My hobbies include researching my literary competition (reading lots of books), researching through a broad spectrum of media (watching films and TV), admiring the work of (drooling over) fine actors such as David Tennant, Richard Armitage and Hugh Jackman, and being used as a bed/scratch-post/chew-toy/human slave by my cats and dog.

If you want to know more about the glamorous everyday life of an author, you can check out my blog, which is full of pictures of my furbabies and the men I fancy. I mean, whose work I admire. Ahem. I have a Yahoo group for news and updates, and if you're on Facebook then I'd love you to join my page.

If you enjoy the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, I think you will really enjoy Sophie Greens character in this Kate Johnson book.

This is a great start to this fun new series. Sophie Green is a young British single working a boring job that she keeps wanting to quit. She works in an airport in check in and has a crush on one of her hot Swedish co-workers, while being intrigued by a hot Italian co-worker. Being in the right place at the wrong time leads to a series of events that have her being picked for a super secret spy group. She maintains her cover to her friends and family while trying to save the world and her cat, Tammy. She is 5' 10'' of blonde bombshell, but doesn't seem to have any self confidence. This story has it all, mystery, romance, steamy love scenes and humor. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Amazon told me that if I liked Lisa Lutz's clever and funny Spellman family series, I'd like this. They were wrong. Very wrong.

It's definitely for the chick lit camp. (Is that genre still around?) For those who enjoy gorgeous heroines who think they're average, a stupid heroine who has others constantly telling her how smart she is, heroines who only see the world through a TV/movie filter and/or their own narcissism, a heroine who never seems to have to work even though she holds a full-time job, a heroine who makes crazy love while she's seriously injured, and a plot with gigantic logic holes that are often pointed out as "what a crazy coincidence!"--well, you'll like this.

It's very non-stop glam action when it's not paeans to the hero's good looks. A lot of readers like that kind of thing.

To me, the author is trying much too hard to be snappy and mod, and her editor let her get away with it. Perhaps all this was cleaned up in the sequels; I don't know and won't be finding out. I'll wait for the next Spellman novel... or even the next Stephanie Plum sequel. Even if Stephanie hasn't had an original thought in years, she's still got more pizzazz than this. At least the book was a reasonable price.

If you love the Stephanie Plum series you will love the Sophie Green Mystery Series. Kate Johnson has created a cast of realistic characters akin to the Plum characters. All the humor, mystery and entertainment set in a "burg" across the pond!

actual warning found on this book--

"Warning, this title contains guns, swearing, dark thoughts about cheerful people, incomprehensible Britishisms, and painful sarcasm."

Kate Johnson, whose breezy style fits first person beautifully, writes the sort of book that's perfect escapist fun. Yes, it's chick lit, but it's GOOD funny chick lit and with a plot, too. Sophie and Kate rock.

The Sophie Green Series is for fans of comedic mysteries with a side of romance. Sophie is the UK's Stephanie Plum. This series was fast paced and entertaining. More chick lit, though, than hard-boiled mystery. Sophie is a lovable, quirky character who finds herself in situations that range from hilarious to downright dangerous.

I read a lot of books and this really has to be one of the most boring and nonsencical books I have ever read. All in a couple of weeks time an airline stewardess happens to get offered a job as a secret agent. accepts the position with no real proof of who these people are. With no training at all she becomes a spy. She starts to receive fingers in the mail, goes on secret missions, again with no training and very little information. She has a bomb thown in her apartment, a building colapse on her and all she could think about is how cute her secret agent partner is. You would think with all of this action it would be an interesting book but all it does is leave you shaking your head thinking this makes absolutely no sense at all.
I would not read another book in this series nor would I ever recommend it to anyone else.
