5.0 out of 5 stars Back in tha day...
I remember coming home from school, throwing my backpack aside, grabbing a soda and putting on Final Fight 3 for SNES, and my best bud and I would sit there for hours of mindless punching and jump kicking. 3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but repetitive
Spyborgs is one of the best action games on the Wii - for a week or two. The same moves will be executed by the gamer hundreds or thousands of times.

Pros:
+ Amazing graphics : One of the few games on the Wii to have detailed and polished graphics
+ Great Sounds and Music
+ Nice multiplayer action with friends
+ Nice reward system...

I remember coming home from school, throwing my backpack aside, grabbing a soda and putting on Final Fight 3 for SNES, and my best bud and I would sit there for hours of mindless punching and jump kicking. It was great. I wanna thank Capcom for bringing me back to that. I have to admit I am biased when it comes to this company, but they really do make great games *cough- except for ps3 bionic commando- cough* Spyborgs is like the spiritual successor to games like Captain Commando and Final fight. It takes the basic Beatem-up formula and kicks it up a notch with detailed, stylized graphics, co-op finishing moves, and over the top bosses (i.e. 20 times bigger than you). Although this has been done before time and time again by the likes of Ben 10 and to some extend the recent Madworld, very few companies reach Capcom's pedigree in this area. The game started it's life more like a bad saturday morning cartoon-gone-game, and ended up being a throwback to days when games were just fun and you didn't have to thins so much about what button does what. Graphically, Spyborgs looks great. The texturing is clean, animation is fluid and the ever-changing locales keep things fresh. The selsection of 'borgs is decent. Each is different from one another to warrant a go, but I think when they started this project they intended to go with 5 total playable characters (from youtube videos I've seen). The storyline is there, even though these types of games never relied too much on story. It's alright if at times a little too exaggerated. On that note, it's nice to see decent lip-synching in the character models during the cutscenes. Controls are pick-up and play for the most part, with the player having to follow onscreen prompts at times to do specific maneuvers. Overall I had a great experience with this one. It's a hit for sure and now that companies are trying to push the limits of the Wii we're seeing great things. I only hope that titles like Dead Space, Spyborgs, and Silent hill Shattered Memories do well. If we complain about the lack of great games when they make them (i.e. Madworld, Little Kings Story), they won't be making them anymore. Show your support! Pick up Spyborgs!

Spyborgs is brought to us by Capcom, famous for the Megaman franchise. In a lot of ways Spyborgs reminds me of Megaman and classic games in general. There is something retro about the gameplay and style of Spyborgs. Although I can't quite put my finger on it I can definitely say that it's well worth the price.

There are two attack buttons in Spyborgs--"B" is for weak attacks and "C" (on the Nunchuk) is for strong attacks. "A" is for jumping, "Z" is for guarding, and a finisher can be used when your power meter is full by blocking and then pressing "A." Hidden items and enemies can be found by using the pointer on the Wii remote.

You have three characters to choose from--Stinger, Bouncer, and Clandestine. Stinger has the shortest range weak attacks, but his strong attacks are long range (using the gun built into his arm). Bouncer is the slowest but strongest of the bunch, and most of his attacks can hit a wide area thanks to his long arms. Clandestine is the fastest but weakest Spyborg, and her range is medium since she has a small sword to help her out. If you don't play co-op with a friend, you will have an AI friend (you can choose which of the three will accompany you) who you can switch control to at any time during a level by pressing the "+" button.

Combos can be chained together (the same button combinations for each character) which can end in launchers (sometimes setting you up for air combos), extremely powerful hits, or just a string of weak attacks to keep a combo going (combos help you gain "money" to purchase upgrades to your characters such as attack and health).

Spyborgs features 4 difficulty settings to choose from at the start, and a fifth is unlockable. This will make the game accessible to gamers of all skill levels. There are also achievements and unlockables such as cheats and movies. The graphics and sound are polished and the framerate is smooth throught the game. The only real negative I have about this game is the lack of a wider variety of enemies. There are quite a few different kinds, but more would have been even better.

Overall, this game is well worth the original price it sold for. Now that it's even cheaper it's a no-brainer. If only Capcom would have advertized this game more it might have been more popular. Fortunately, I paid attention and got this game while I still could.

Graphics: 8/10
Music: 9/10
Controls: 10/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Replay Value: 8/10

Overall: 9/10

Highly recommended to fans of this genre. Anybody that passed by on MadWorld due to the M rating should check this out. Thanks for reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected., October 29, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

I did not have high hopes for this game but since its published by Capcom I decided to give it a chance and its a pretty entertaining game. The story is kind of weak and would be better suited for younger audiences. The gameplay is your basic beat em up brawler and for all intents and purposes works quite well.

Your B button is your melee attack while A is to jump,C is your power attack and Z is your block. You also have a good option to use button presses or motions for certain aspects of the game. The developers took note that pointless motion flailing of your arm is totally pointless and motion controls are optional. You can use a cursor type thing across the screen that locates hidden boxes and control panels that make bridges slide across and the such.

You can upgrade your skills at the end of each level and there are over 30 levels. 4 difficulty modes starting with the easiest being novice. The game can get quite hard so they made it to where you can change difficulty settings at any point. You can also go back and replay missions again and again much like how you can in Devil May Cry and you will keep your upgrades to your character and you can keep upgrading them.

The sound is really does a good job. Graphics are some of the best I have seen on the Wii in quite some time. The game is pretty much well polished and the only negative I can say is the game can get repetitive but that comes to the nature of the genre and I love it ! Levels are linear and straight forward much like nearly every beat em up brawler before it. Boss fights are pretty cool as well. You also can ulock medals and other achievements through out the game and this will extend the gameplay quite a bit.

Overall this is a welcome addition to the Wii library and anyone that likes action games or beat em up brawlers needs to go out and get this one immediately.

I own this game and it is by far the best co-op two player game for Wii. It has sci-fi robots, hidden moves and the graphics are superb. I can't believe this game is sold for $[...] here. Its worth $[...] plus in my opinion. Good job game developers, expecting Spyborgs-2 soon ! :)

This is very much styled after the older Final Fight type games. It's very basic, all-out action with minimal upgrading of your characters. Along the same lines of those games it's also fairly short and very tough, even on the easiest setting you'll have to replay some levels and boss battles a few times.

I wish there was more variety to the attacks available, and the onscreen action can be very tough to follow at times - which turns this into a button-masher rather than a test of skill. But if you learn how and when to use your basic attacks, you'll be much more effective.

Overall this is a fun game in that mindless beat-em-up way, and the emphasis on stringing together long combo attacks gives it some replay value. Definitely worth the $8 I paid for it. Graphics and sound are very good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but too hard, May 15, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spyborgs (Video Game)
Spyborgs is a relatively fun game but I find it overly difficult, especially for a game that seems marketed for the younger end of the teen crowd. Graphics are very good and the game runs smoothly. Storyline is fluff but I didn't expect much more from it, so no problems there. This game is just hard, and not in the good sense of challenging. Your basic combo does practically nothing to enemies. If you try to use a heavy attack to knock back an enemy or something of that nature they're likely to interrupt your combo, or one of the other baddies will walk up behind you and stop the combo. On anything but the lowest difficulty level your lifebar is practically non-existent. You're playing along blocking, doing special moves, brawling, some guy gets two or three lucky hits and you're scrambling for a health kit. I'm pretty good at games and I usually like a good challenge but this is ridiculous. If your partner dies you have to defeat all the enemies for them to return (good luck with that) and if you both die you have to replay the whole level, checkpoints anyone? Now, I'll get off the complaining except for one last bit. Some of the upgrades are not explained in the slightest. I unlocked finishing strike, yay! What does it do? None of my combos change and there is no explanation whatsoever so I don't know if I'm using "finishing strike" or if there is some button combo I need to know that I've somehow missed. Anyway, as the game is cheap now I do recommend people buy it, I'm serious! It's a fun little game (if you turn down the difficulty to novice). It's good to have a game where you just sit down and brawl for a little while. There are some unlockables and achievements which are nice and I'm planning on trying to rack up some super combos, which should be alright. Seems like the designers of this game could have really worked on the difficulty level of the game, I don't know what they were thinking. If I, who have played games for years and have completed plenty of challenges find the medium difficulty of spyborgs to be too annoying, I just don't know what they were thinking when they playtested the game. Buy this game cheap and enjoy it on novice, that's my advice.
