The Cara Cara2, a compact and lightweight folding knife from innovative cutlery company Spyderco, has been reengineered to include a full flat-ground blade for enhanced edge geometry and cutting precision. Other updates and improvements include a proprietary Bi-Directional Textured FRN handle, for improved grip and control, and phosphor bronze pivot washers for smooth blade operation. Similar to the prior model, the Cara Cara2 retains spine and choil jimping and a four-position clip for a variety of carrying configurations. Skeletonized nested handle liners add strength while keeping weight to a minimum, and screw-together construction is both sturdy and easy to clean and maintain.

The 8Cr13MoV steel blade has a comet-shaped hole, and the jimped crosshatching alone the spine helps the thumb's grip on the top of the blade for precise, comfortable, nonslip use. A finger choil enhances the ergonomic stainless steel handle, and the mid-positioned back lock has a David Boye cut-away dent, a safety feature allowing tight gripping without accidentally releasing the lock.

About Spyderco
Thinking beyond established knife industry practices has allowed Spyderco to introduce new innovations, including one-hand opening, serrations on a folder, and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket. Spyderco remains dedicated to researching and developing improved, better-performing materials with function and reliability, and its unique cutlery line is a result of designing ergonomic, functional tools. The company puts its new products through rigorous testing prior to release, examining edge retention with a CATRA machine, looking for rust development with Q-FOG, checking the force needed to open and close a knife, and analyzing numerous other technical details.

Customer Reviews

It's made very well and sharp.
Steven G. Depolo
The blade deploys very easily thanks to the well sized opening hole, it locks up rock solid with absolutely no side to side or up and down play.
Amazon Customer
This is a Chinese made knife, but the quality is exceptional.

[I'm not going to bother with specs as those can easily be found on the manufacturer's website.]

I'm an amateur photographer, and as such it's not uncommon for me to carry around thousands of dollars worth of camera gear, and sometimes I have no choice but to do so on my own. I wanted to get a knife in addition to my pepper spray as backup emergency defense, as well as a light utility blade of sorts. I needed to get a folding knife because of some laws in my state about fixed blade knives, I also wanted to keep something on me at all times and I think a lightweight folding knife would be the easiest to do that with.

Basically my requirements were - light weight, quick deployment, inexpensive, and at least a 3 inch blade (for defensive purposes).

Before I started shopping around I researched different options for about a month (maybe too much). I found plenty of recommendations for what knife afficionados refer to as "EDC" or every day carry knives as well as "tactical" - or defensive knives. I found many video reviews here on Amazon and YouTube - from popular users such as Nutnfancy, Crocket20, TheLateBoyScout, WeAllJuggleKnives, X4cto, and others on all sorts of recommendations. Some notable suggestions included the Ontario RAT 1, Cold Steel AK-47/Recon 1, Spyderco Endura, Emerson CQC, CRKT M16, Gerber Evo, Kershaw Skyline/Volt II/Leek, SOG Flash, Buck Vantage, and others.

Since I really wanted a light weight knife in hopes that I'd keep it on me at all times (and that every ounce adds up when you carry a lot of camera equipment), I ruled out knives like the Ontario, Cold Steels, even though their designs really appealed to me - they just weighed too much (more than even my cell phone).

This knife is a pretty looking knife. It is almost identical to the endura 4 in size and shape. The steel is not as good and it can fel a little gritty when you first open and close it but it goes away after a few openings. It is a neat knife to have if you don't want to shell out the 60 plus for the Endura 4. It is fun to play with and cut with, it comes sharp but not as sharp as the tenacious. I would say it is a tad bit below the Tenacious in quality, but not so low that I would not recommend purchasing the knife. It has a neat design and is worth buying, especially for only $20. Buy it and be happy.

Blade length: 3" 11/16ths
Overall length: 8" 15/16ths
cutting edge: 3.25"
This is a great knife. The lockup was a little bit gritty at first but with a few openings it is silky smooth. The locking bar is easy to depress unlike a lot of other lockback type knives and is quite strong. There are some rough grind marks where the locking bar meets the blade tang but it does not effect anything and the inside of the handle scales show a couple of marks where they were cut out the mold. These things don't bother me at all. The knife does feature a pretty well thought out traction plan. there is effective jimping on the thumb ramp, finger choil and the back of the handle. What the blade lacks in retention it more than makes up for in deployment speed. The edge came shaving sharp and any blade play is easily rectifyed by a T-9 torx bit.The handle seems a bit too squared off but at only 6/16ths thick it is not an issue. The pocket clip is hourglass shaped and 4 way positionable. All in all this is a great knife for the minuscule amount of money it costs. I would highly recommend this knife to anyone who needs a larger size folder that is still capable of doing some finer detail work.

First of all, I paid $18 for this knife. That is amazing considering what I got for less than $20. This knife is produced in China by Byrd, a high-value line of knives owned by Spyderco. So, as with all spyderco knives, the quality is outstanding and the performance is excellent. It came with a decently sharp edge and I have had sharper knives from the factory and duller knives from the factory.

First, I want to say this is an excellent defensive weapon. It has a nicely sized 3.75 inch blade with a fine point and a sharp edge. The bi-direction pattern on the handle and jimping on the top and bottom prevent your hand from slipping over the edge and give an excellent grip for a pierce cut. Also, these factors made it an excellence EDC tool for various everday tasks such as opening boxes and mail, food preperation, and even digging out a splinter from a finger.

As far as construction goes, it is built by a company with great quality control. It has 8Cr13MoV steel, similar to the Japanese AUS8 steel and has adequate edge holding and rust resistant properties. It will dull over time but is very easy to sharpen as it is a high value steel and, so far, has been holding up well. It comes with a four position pocket clip which is good for lefties and righties alike. This pocket clip is also positioned so the part that is tough on your pants is not rubbing on textured grip and messing up your clothing; it is positioned on the emblem part of the handle which is smooth. The lockback design is also equal for both sides of handedness. As a lefty, the ambidexterity is very important to me. The pocket clip has a stonwash finish and looks great. I only wish the blade itself had the same finish as opposed to the satin finish.
