Product Description

Digital camouflage is the result of applying engineering psychology with the study of visual biophysics and human visual performance. Digital camouflage pattern is a mosaic of small connected micro-patterns, optically reducing the eye’s ability to detect and discern an object. Digital patterns were developed to enhance concealment for our men and women of the U.S. Military going into harm’s way protecting our freedom. The Para-Military2 has several changes over the classic version.  The G-10 handle is narrowed at the end improving the ergonomics. The handle and blade have been profiled thinner; removing uncomfortable angles when in the closed position.  It features a Compression Lock and an ambidextrous-friendly four way clip which carries tip-up/tip-down, left/right-hand and rests deeper in a pocket.  We kept the same high-performance CPM-S30V full flat-ground blade but we’ve also lengthened the blade’s tip and added additional surface jimping to both the spine and finger choil.  Implementation of a new Bushing Pivot System generates fluid action and more consistent manufacturing tolerances.  Larger lanyard gives more options for carry. Refinements to overall construction may not be drastic or even visible to the eye but from the G-10 textured handle to the CPM-S30V steel full flat blade, everything is sharper, smoother and guaranteed to provide performance and user comfort.

Ther aren't many top quality U.S. made knives available for about $100. The Spyderco PM 2 is one of them. Top of the line materials and workmanship make this knife a must have for knife junkies like myself. The blade is made of CPM-S30V steel which is about the best for edge hardness and retention. The blade comes RAZOR sharp from the factory and will stay that way for a long time. The knife fits my hand like it was made for me. When you grasp it it the curved shape squeezes around both ends of your hand which creates a very strong tight fist around the knife. I have always been hesitant to use my other well made American folders w/the s30v or 154cm steel (Lone Wolf Harsey T and D series, LW Paul's, Benchmade Presidio 5000BK) because they were a lot of money. Instead for EDC I use the less expensive Boker or CRKT, or Kershaw knives which are all fine, but not in the same class as the Spyderco. This is a great knife for a reasonable price, It will last for years if not a lifetime, it's one sharp Mofo.

This knife literally shaves hairs... (I've got an unfortunately large bald spot on my arm to prove it.) I brushed the knife a few times against my arm to test its sharpness, however, it didn't seem to be overly effective. What I didn't realize was that the knife was cutting the hairs so well and cleanly that they were staying in place on my arm as the blade moved through them. After a few more strokes than strictly necessary (perhaps out of vexation), it occurred to me to brush the hairs on the test spot aside with my hand, which revealed first the enthusiastic grin of my embracing my new purchase followed immediately by a single raised eyebrow and audible deep sigh expressing the dumbfounding stupidity I was now feeling for using my own arm hairs to test blade sharpness. Yikes! It is probably the sharpest knife I've ever seen. I then did a paper test. You don't even have to slice, just push. You can't even hear the paper cutting. It is that sharp. If you ever lose your shaving razor, don't worry about it, you are covered. The lockup is excellent. The speed of opening is scary. Just be careful, it is fun to open the blade quickly. On one occasion, (while playing) my hand slipped just slightly and I merely touched the blade resulting in a little indent and micro abrasions on my thumb (kind of like a paper cut). That was after just touching the blade with a 1/2 pound or so of force (not slicing or running my thumb against it). Needless to say, I will not be playing with it anymore. It is just too sharp.

The only real complaint I have is that the knife is almost too good. I don't want to use it to cut anything for fear that I might dull its near perfect blade. I don't really want to carry it for fear that I might lose it.

(UPDATE: I am going to leave the rating at two stars, just for the purpose of drawing attention to the issues I had with this knife, but I should point out that I now consider this a 6 STAR KNIFE, it is BY FAR my favorite of all the knives I own and I have just purchased a third, one is black/silver, one is camo/silver. They ARE hard to find, but don't pay more than $140 AT MOST and you CAN find them for around $118 from reliable sources if you keep your eyes open... black blades are rarer.)

OK, this is really more than a 2 star knife... but for a couple reasons, I am going to have to rate it that way.

I am a collecting maniac and currently have the knife bug. I have amassed quite a collection of various knives (including several other Spydercos) since the bug hit. I first saw this ParaMilitary2 in a video by Nutnfancy and I loved the look of this particular model (camo/black) and I loved the way it opened/closed with the compression lock. This is one of the most expensive (yet!) knives that I have purchased, but I had to go for it. I was on the Amazon wait-list for this knife for MONTHS, watching in annoyance as they played games raising and lowering the price... but finally, my order was filled!

The first thing I noticed when I received the knife was that it was extremely difficult to open or close with the compression lock (practically impossible to do so fully). I lubed the pivot, I adjusted the pivot screw, nothing helped. This was nothing like the knife I had seen in the video, flipping open and closed with ease.

I sent an e-mail to Spyderco warranty support, describing my problem and asking if it sounded like a warranty issue (I doubt I could have returned it to Amazon for a replacement, considering the current scarcity).

Took a while to find the ParaMilitary 2 in the camo and black blade from a reputable dealer but the wait paid off. This is the nicest knife I have owned and the fit and finish is second to none. I have only had it a couple days so I am not sure how well the DLC coating will hold up but from what I have heard it is very durable. I am having a tough time trying to find the words to describe how awesome this knife is as I am left speechless. If you got $150 burning a hole in your pocket and you are looking for a perfect EDC that can do it all this is the knife to get. The tip is pretty fine so doing any prying with it is probably not a good idea, but everything else is perfection. The handle is large enough for heavy cutting tasks but it also allows for precise cutting if you choke up on it. I love it I love it I love it. Spyderco has become my go to brand, leaving Benchmade in the dust. You can't find a better quality knife for the price. I'll take this knife any day over my buddies $400 Chris Reeves. If you get a chance to buy this knife go for it but make sure that the dealer is reputable because these ParaMilitary 2 are heavily counterfeited and they look very similar but the difference can be seen in the details of the fit n finish. Make the purchase you won't regret it, guaranteed.
