Product Description

Persistence means steadfastness and never-give-up-attitude. Spyderco?s G-10 Persistence Plain Edge Knife sports a milled G-10 laminate handle with prolonged fatigue-free cutting in mind. Comfort in hand means easier use long-term. Skeletonized steel liners tucked inside the handle, increase the handle's rigidity and strength level without adding non-functional weight or bulkiness. The 8Cr13MoV stainless blade is a modified skinning-style, ground-flat. Careful positioning of the oversized Spyderco Round Hole, relative to the location of the pivot, pre-set the hand in just the right spot for fumble-free one-hand blade open/close. Fully sharpened edge from tip to tang generates the most cutting edge possible for the blade's length. A 4-way pocket clip lets the folder set tip-up/tip-down left-hand/right-hand. Walker Linerlock has a jimped liner. Screw together construction.Weight 4.2 oz (120 g).

Really great looking , well centered sharp blade, easy to deploy one handed, and a nice tight pocket clip.

The spyder hole means easy operation to open the blade with one hand, and the stainless steel liner lock makes it a snap to close the knife one handed.
W. Lambdin
Your getting a knife that holds it edge very well, comes razor sharp out of the box, and is built like a tank.

Looking for a good value in an everyday carry knife? This is it.

The Spyderco Persistence is an outstanding entry-level choice for those who are looking for a sturdy, dependable pocket knife. The 8Cr13MoV blade (a decent Chinese stainless steel tempered at the Rc56 to Rc58 range) retains a good edge and resists corrosion well. The full flat grind makes this knife a good slicer. Be careful, it comes scary sharp right out of the box. The G-10 handle, as well as the jimping along the spine and lock liner, provide a good grip and tactile feedback to the user. It also has a sturdy pocket clip that does not interfere with the user's grip (in my opinion). The clip can be moved for four different carry styles (left/right hand, tip up/down). Fit and finish are good, especially considering it's one of their lowest price (and overseas manufactured) models. But then you would expect nothing less from Spyderco.

The Persistence is only a slightly smaller version of the Spyderco Tenacious model but just as wicked. The primary difference between the Persistence and it's older sibling is in size and weight.

7 3/4" - length overall
4 7/16" - length closed
3 3/8" - blade length
4 oz. - weight

6 13/16" - length overall
4 1/8" - length closed
2 3/4" - blade length
3.3 oz. - weight

The difference may not look like much on paper but it is significant in your hand. I'm a big fan of the Tenacious but find myself carrying the Persistence more often simply because of size. Much will depend on what your needs are and what you are used to.

This light weight knife is comfortable as a pocket knife while maintaining functionality. It fits well in my hand(I typically wear large sized golves for reference)as well as in the little pocket that sits above my front pants pocket. I've always wondered what this small pocket was for - now i know. It is so light i never notice that it's on my person. It's not an intimidating knife, if that's what you're into, however, it is nice looking. It locks open tightly and is not loose in any direction. Sharp as heck right out of the box.

I'm the sort that does a lot of research before I buy anything, this particular knife included.

In terms of its dimensions, it is just about the perfect length for a general use pocket knife (slightly under three inches). The one thing I might point out is that, while this blade is within the "regular" dimensions for a pocket knife in terms of length, the over-sized spyder hole and flat grind of the blade make it appear a lot bigger than other knives in its class. If you're looking for something that looks really small and discreet, you may want to look for a narrower blade.

That said, the broad blade and spyder hole, as well as the general construction of the knife, make for a really nice, easy open. The knife also slices extremely well. In short, it does what it is supposed to do really, really well... especially for less than 30 bucks.

The G-10 material used for the scales is nice and provides a good, solid grip. It isn't the most comfortable material I've ever held in my hand, in terms of the scales on the side of a knife, but like I said above... it does what it is supposed to do really, really well. It provides good, solid purchase. If I was going to hold this thing and use it to cut for hours on end (not usually my use), it might be a deal breaker though. Whittlers beware.

The research that I did indicated that some of these blades have construction problems, in terms of issues with the opening. I didn't have these problems. Mine is buttery smooth. Also, I'd seen more than one forum where people talked about how the clip (which is designed to be moved) is difficult to move. Specifically, some of the hex screws on the clip vary in size, or strip easily.

I've wanted this knife for some time now and recently decided to buy it despite two points of concern that have often been brought up by consumer reviews: the first concern being the poor quality of screws used in the knife and the second being the stiffness of deployment. I had previously read that many people had stripped the screws on the Persistence using a mini torx bit. If you look closely at the screws, you can tell that they are hex screws. I removed the screws for the pocket clip with an allen wrench without incident. But when I was re-installing the clip for tip up carry (despite using an allen wrench) one of the screws stripped. The screws seem extremely soft and do strip very easily. Great care must be taken when tightening the screws. That being said, I had no problem with the speed of knife deployment at all. The Persistence actually opens quicker than my Benchmade mini griptilian, which is more than double the price. The blade came sharp and looks great. If I had paid 50-60 dollars for this knife, I would expect hardware of better quality. But for 30 bucks, the Persistence is a great value for the money.
