Book Description

In the second book of The Vision Chronicles, Mike Lewis is back!

Living in Juarez, Mexico, he has a new name, a new identity, and a new way to see visions of the future. Now, as James Lewis, he is equipped to put the past behind him and start a new life. He believes the company is off his trail. Through the spyglass, James sees clear, distinct vision and has been shown a future complete with a wife and family. That's exactly what he's always wanted and sets out to find it. When James meets Danny, he discovers that the woman of his dreams has been terrorized by Nate Potter for the last six years. The nasty-tempered stalker has successfully intimidated each of Danny’s previous love interests and scared them away by threats and physical violence. Each time, Nate’s attacks have become more vicious until now--he is out for blood. Now, Nate’s eyes are focused on James and he is determined to stop the romance before it gets started even if he has to kill someone. (Adult content; not explicit or graphic)

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Much Fluff and Not Enough Substance July 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Spyglass is the second book in The Vision Chronicles series of books written by author Chariss K. Walker. In a lot of book series, the first book serves as the story setup, background, and character development to transition the reader into the main conflict of the series in the books to follow. I typically like to see the second book to pick up the pace and keep the reader interested. Unfortunately, that’s not what occurred in this novel. Though I do like the author’s writing style and I found the setting believable, I found most of the body of this work to be fluff. It was unnecessary and uninteresting information on meetings with a realtor and what the main character ate for breakfast; frankly, I just didn’t care. With that being said, I do think that this series has a lot of potential. The main character has a unique personality and his premonition type abilities continue to develop and change and it doesn’t always keep him out of trouble. Even the newly blossoming relationship with his romantic interest seems very superficial; I would have liked to see a much more realistic gradual development of their relationship and interactions. It seemed as though the main female character, the love interest, was far less fleshed out then some of the supporting female characters. Mostly this book simply left me wanting and craving more. It wasn’t until the last ten percent that I felt an actual build to a conflict of some kind. This may not be the book for everyone, but if you read and enjoyed the first in the series you will likely enjoy this book and hopefully the following works in the series are less fluffy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A secret talent. June 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mike Lewis met a man named Adom who told him he had a gift and was able to reactivate it. Mikes gift is the ability to see the future whenever he closed his eyes which is kaleidoscopeo. Now Mike sees clear visions of the future through a spyglass. He has taken Magin’s identity Mike is on the run. Mike meets the woman of his dreams, Danny. He tells Danny his secret and now she is learning how to defend herself. Mike, Danny, Patty and Sand become family. This is what Mike has been looking for. Is his family in danger? That’s how the book leaves it. Clincher.

This book was awesome. I was glued to my seat the entire time. I can’t wait to read the next book. I even want to go back and read the first one. I loved the way Walker explained Mike’s ability. How Mike broke his ability.

The Vision Chronicles is the story of Mike, who (in the first book) finds out he is able to see horrible images through a kaleidoscope, of things that will, or have already happened. Book 2 follows the evolution of his abilities, into Mike being able to see the future through a spyglass in his mind. It deals with Mike coming to terms with his gift (OR CURSE!?!), and trying to start a new life. In one of his visions, he sees himself enjoying a happy life with the woman he falls in love with, but will knowing that to be the outcome ultimately help or hurt him?

This is a very compelling and interesting thriller, with a fairly unique premise, as far as Mike’s ability to see the future. I really like the idea of the ability first materializing as broken and disjointed images, like if you were looking through a kaleidoscope, but after accepting his ability, he gets a kind of clarity, and the visions become much clearer. I really enjoyed reading Mike’s progression working through and past these issues, and ultimately coming to grips with the situation, and accepting his lot in life. There was very good character development for the main character, and considering this is a fairly long series, some kind of character growth is a good thing.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this book, and will definitely be checking out the other Vision Chronicles books in the future.

But Mike ALREADY KNEW that I was going to do that, didn’t he!?
