5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a good camera August 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Since last year we have tried several trail cameras and have been stuck with many many pictures that are a total white out, most generally at what they call the " transition time " or dusk and dawn. This camera at just over $100 has no white out pictures what so ever, not a single one. It is simple to set up and use, and uses AA batteries, not C like many others. At this point I highly recommend this camera for the everyday hunter or anyone wanting to have a look at things , the experts or people that want to spend alot of money will of course choose the more sophistocated cameras on the market. I even had a very foggy morning and the pictures were great. This camera will do the job it is intended for and has a great price. Here is the website that led me to this great little camera and thanks to Amazon for making it available with prime shipping !! [...] . Check out all the cameras while you are at it, not many are as impressive as this little number.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Camera October 12, 2011

I purchased this Spypoint 5MP Field Camera as a gift for my husband's birthday. The "Spy Point" brand was recommended to me by another hunter that I work with. In no time my husband and I had the camera strapped to a tree facing a food plot, hoping to catch a picture of some wildlife. By the next morning, we had some of the most beautiful pictures of deer and turkey. The night pictures are in black and white but are very clear. The daytime pictures are beautiful and capture the deer whether they are standing in sun or shade. We have purchased 2 SD cards so that we can take one out of the camera and back to the cabin to preview, but have another to leave in the camera. I love this camera and think it is a great value. I chose 2 day shipping, and received it the next day!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! What a great trail camera November 7, 2011

I was looking for a new trail camera to replce my Moultrie i40, which died after two years of use. I did some research and read lots of great reviews about the Spypoint cameras. For the price, I couldn't resist trying it. So far, I absolutely love the pictures that it takes. It is also the easiest trail cam that I have ever used. Something really nice about this unit is that the camera is totally separate of the housing, and boy am I glad it is. I had a bear attack my camera after a couple of weeks use. Although it punctured a hole in the sensor window, it did not damage the actual camera. I need to buy a new sensor window from the company, but it is a lot cheaper than ordering a whole trail camera. Do yourself a favor, if you buy this camera, don't cheap out. Buy the security box to protect it from a bear attack.

4.0 out of 5 stars First trail camera August 2, 2012

First time using one admittedly. Ordered the unit and the security case, a python camo cable lock, and 2- 16Gb cards so I can swap one out and leave one in the field. The unit came in before the security box so I installed it without it at first. Good O-ring seal for the camera case to keep water out. Goes on the tree easily with the included strap but further securing with the cable lock moves it a bit and triggers the camera. Easy configuration for date and time stamp. Easy slide switches on the back to change from stills to video and number of stills or seconds of video. Stills have higher resolution and the date, time, temp, and moon phase imprinted on them. Exact accuracy of the temp stamp is suspect as it would vary between stills in the 4 still burst mode sometimes. But it's close enough as compared to my other temp measurements. Videos don't have the date and time stamps imprinted on the video, but the date and time is associated with the video clip so we use that to generate a spread sheet and chart the dates, times, and type of animals for graphing and behavior study.
I tried using the four picture burst still mode first. Great resolution but switched to video at 10seconds. Video gives better sense of animal behavior. Black bear came in just before dead dark the first night. He could either see the camera leds or just smelled the camera. Came right up to it for his close up. Was worried he'd come back and maul the unit so was glad when the security box came in. Highly recommend it. Solid and plenty of holes for mounting and security cables and locks. Took off the web strap as unnecessary and lag bolted the security box to the pine tree(with washers to spread out the pressure and make it harder to pry off the tree).

5.0 out of 5 stars Works good in the back yard too February 24, 2012

You can set this up anywhere you want for surveillance. It is silent. The L.E.D. I.R. does glow a bit when it is in the dark but only after there is movement. The photos that it takes in the dark are all black and white. Small animals such as armadillos, rats, and small opossums that are on the fringes are not as clear as those images that are more in the center of the frame. The I.R. seems to project clearly out to about 25 to 35 feet. Beyond that range images are still visible but at a reduced quality. Reflections from eyes can be seen much farther away in excess of 50 feet.
One option that I have not tried but it will work easily is to set up a long term power source. This unit does come with an accessory connection port.
