5.0 out of 5 stars Improvements to Spyro!
I got this for X-mas and I am a huge Spyro fan! I started with the second one and this is now the fifth release not counting gameboy games, and the second on Playstation 2. The last one, Enter the Dragonfly wasn't SO successful and I feared there wouldn't be another; but here it is! And SO many things have been added. Buying items at item shops, keychains for keys to open...

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but BROKEN
I bought this game on a whim; I am not a Spyro fan. For the first few hours, I found it quite enjoyable. It had colorful graphics, cool moves, and even some humorous aspects. Unfortuneately, it is UNBELIEVABLY frustrating. I'm quite skilled with platformers, but this game required perfect timing, accuracy, etc. All this led to a lot of anger on my part. Still, I might...

5.0 out of 5 stars Improvements to Spyro!, December 26, 2004

This review is from: Spyro A Hero's Tail (Video Game)
I got this for X-mas and I am a huge Spyro fan! I started with the second one and this is now the fifth release not counting gameboy games, and the second on Playstation 2. The last one, Enter the Dragonfly wasn't SO successful and I feared there wouldn't be another; but here it is! And SO many things have been added. Buying items at item shops, keychains for keys to open boxes, riding around in the professors new gadget ball, mini-games featuring not Spyro, but his friends, etc. i kind of miss flying Spyro through the rings in the speed race, but...This new Spyro is clearly trying to keep up with newer platform games that others seem to enjoy, but luckily they have kept things from being too hard that you give up eventually and you don't have to worry about wandering around and getting lost in the game. Spyro must learn new tricks like spin pole, etc. as he moves along, and he even meets little dragons like him- Ember,Flame. Hard enough to keep you playing to get through the challenge, but it never seems overwhelming. Some of the mini-game's second levels are a pain, but you can come back later. The strategy guide is also helpful. This time, I don't think anyone can complain that Spyro hasn't evolved or that it's the same old thing, but Spyro fans love Spyro even if it was the same game but with new adventures and levels. He's Spyro! Hours of enjoyment!

Unfortuneately, it is UNBELIEVABLY frustrating. I'm quite skilled with platformers, but this game required perfect timing, accuracy, etc. All this led to a lot of anger on my part. Still, I might have managed to work through it...if it hadn't BROKE! Yes, that's right: when I tried to turn it on again, the XBox refused to read my saved file. And I must admit, I had no desire to start over. Eventually, I sold this game...and my XBox. Sorry, Vivendi; sorry, Bill Gates. You'll both have to come up with something less faulty next time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game for a 5 year old., June 25, 2006

Spyro was one of the first games my 5 year old ever played. It was challenging enough for him without being too frustrating. There are alot of Xbox games on the market that are for more mature audiences but this one was perfect for a 5 year old. This game was not meant for an adult gaming audience. I was surprised when I realized this game is no longer in production. There should be more games for the 5-10 age bracket. My son loves this game. He literally wore it out. I have to find him another copy of Hero's Tail to replace his old one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spyro! a heros tail?, September 2, 2005
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spyro A Hero's Tail (Video Game)
i am a huge spyro fan, i have been playing since the first one, which was great, the second one better, the third one, ok, forth one What happened!! this one, after purchasing mine from amazon cheaply for something like £5 i regret doing so, it was a waste of money seen as the whole game is a bit repetative and frustrating, you never seem to get anywhere. all the voices have changed. if you are a series gamer and enjoyed the origional spyro games, dont buy this and dont be disapointed. however i would say that if you are under 12 you would probably very much enjoy the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars better on playstation, January 12, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spyro A Hero's Tail (Video Game)
Unfortunately I learned how to play Spyro on a Playstation, so I have had a hard time adjusting to the different set up of the X-Box controller. It is still a great game full of querky characters though.
My main problem was with the gems, the side games, and the purchasing items. In the original Spyro games, there were only a set amount of jewels you could collect from any one level. With this game, the jewels come back if you go to a different area and come back. It takes some of the search and find fun out of the game. Also, the side games are much more difficult. Beatable, but sometimes so difficult that I end up getting frustrated and chucking my controller. Moneybags comes back with a shop and to use things like fireballs you have to buy them. You have to buy keys to unlock chests, which is something I find to be a bit too much. Sometimes you are so deep in a level that when you come across a chest and don't have a key, you have to almost leave the level to go buy one. Also there are things you have to do in the first couple levels that you can't do until you have completed several others because they require powers that you don't get until later in the game. You are continually trying to go back and find where where those spots were. It is inconvienient.
Fortunately, I still love this game. The characters are hilarious, especially Sparx the dragonfly. I am hoping the new Spyro game will have some kinks worked out of it for hte X-Box system. If you have a Playstation and an X-Box, take the Playstation version. It is easier to control and figure out than the X-Box version. This makes sense considering it was originally a Playstation exclusive game.
