Editorial Reviews

From the Label

The Ulterior Motive Orchestra was big, bombastic and totally anonymous — the perfect foil for this set of spy themes recorded at the height of the Cold War in the 1960s. Skulking next to the film and television spy themes ("Goldfinger," The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," "007") are "double agents" — thrilling tunes with cinemascope arrangements "suggested by the novels of Ian Fleming." For the liner notes, Brother Cleve of touring unit Combustible Edison, has hammered out a fine gunmetal prose.

2.0 out of 5 stars Turn it down!, January 15, 1999

This review is from: Spytime (Audio CD)
Outside of a couple of tracks (most notably, a decent version of Secret Agent Man), this disk really isn't very good. It blares out at you and is obnoxious. Way too overdone and noisy. It's from a good genre, orchestral spy music, but it's far too bombastic. If you're looking for good loud spy-type music, I'd recommend Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited's "Fluid Soundbox" over this.
