This thing is an awesome idea and works well if you learn from our mistakes.

One, make sure you put the concrete on your post ALL the way up to the top like a basketball goal. This will help with SOME of the bending of the 4x4's. Some bending is normal if you want to get the sails tight. Best bet is to use metal poles if you can afford them. It rained heavily here last night and it seems the clay shifted quite a bit since we read the instructions wrong on how much concrete to use.

Second, the rain does go through the sail, but very slowly. Our sail is still dripping 18 hours or so after the heavy rainfall and has lowered and stretched considerably. We are going to have to dig out the clay and re-concrete the 4x4's properly and probably use less hardware to stretch the sails out some.

So, one thing we're going to do in the future is tie up the sails when we leave or when we know a storm is brewing!!

For the price, you can't beat it as long as you avoid a few things and use some "common sense" (however common that is these days lol).

My deck gets full sun all day long. I have tried umbrellas and gazebos and they only shaded a small area of the deck. I bought the 18x18 sun sail and it covers my entire deck! I was afraid it might make my house dark but It filters the light and gives a beautiful golden glow!

Looks pretty much just like the picture. It went up in a few hours once I made my tether ropes and positioned everything. It allows some light through like the picture shows but provides excellent shade coverage on my fully exposed deck. Now we can use our deck all day instead of only in the mornings and evenings...will buy from again. Will update this review with durability as it gets used.

<<UPDATE 07/21>>

It has been installed for a few weeks now and I have noticed a few things:

1) It catches leaves, but they usually blow off, so I haven't had to do any maintenance thus far.
2) I take it down if a severe storm is in the forecast.
3) It stretches out slightly, so you might have to retighten the tethers a few times until it stretches out completely.
4) In the rain, it holds some water (obviously). The water finds a low point and drips through, but during the rain it sags because of the weight of the water. It dries out quickly after the rain and pretty much returns to it's normal tight level, but as above this could stretch the fabric and ropes and you might have to retighten the ropes to get it taught again.

I'm still a happy camper and haven't removed any stars from my initial 5-star review.

UPDATE 12/24/13

Well, it survived a pretty harsh summer. Lots of wind and thunderstorms, and no worse for wear. Looks like this thing will hold up just fine. It does appear to have faded somewhat, but what can you expect, it's fully exposed to sunlight all day long. I will probably tighten the tethers so that it fits a bit more tight next year, as it has stretched a bit more this year.

UPDATE 06/08/14

Took the sun shade out of storage a couple of weeks ago.

UPDATED 5/29/14 After a year
I added a star back today because it is still going strong after a year. I pitched it in the middle with 4" round PVC pipe since I couldnt master getting it to lay without a sag but this works fine.

UPDATED 3/29/13 After actually hanging it.
I had to delete a stars from my original review, this shade turned out to be very off in size. It just barely covered a 17 x17 area not 18x18.The thing that is misleading is that it is not a perfect square. It actually has points in each corner with that extra fabric considered it measures correctly. Another disappointment is that it is actually 2 pieces of fabric sewn together not one continuous single piece.it has a seam running down the middle. On top of all that the two pieces are not the same die lot just a little off also the grain of both pieces go in opposite directions. So if you are looking for perfect you wont find it here. I feel I got what I paid for and since I made this size work for me and its for an animal enclosure and they arent fussy about such things ill keep it without complaint. Some of these issues worked in my favor anyway, gotta love when that happens.

Original Review:
I ordered on Thursday evening and received promptly on Monday morning. Outside packaging was a large cardboard box about 18 inches by 18 inches. The actual sail was packaged in a plastic zippered bag with handles just like a comforter that you buy at Target, Walmart etc... A quantity of 4, four feet pieces of 3/8 inch nylon rope is included to attach each corner. The perimeter is sewn with a one inch hem with four "D" rings about 1 ½ inches that are reinforced with nylon webbing fabric on the flat end of the ring.

these work fine, but just know that when tightly stretched, as necessary for a flat surface without sagging, these are not nearly as square as in the picture. the semi-circle curve between the supports are very pronounced. So if you intend to hang this square against the house, you really can't. You'll have a semi-circle curve at the intended flat edge, and there will be a big curved gap between the flat edge of the house and the shade, letting unfiltered sunlight in. just FYI.
