5.0 out of 5 stars one of the most unsung r&b artist of our time
"Square One" is one of those types of albums that you can put in and let play and let the music and lyrics take over. I am a big G.T. fan and I am also dissapointed with the lack of publicity and coverage this multitalented artist receives. ---This album is a "must have" for true soul/R&B fans

5.0 out of 5 stars Still in the rotation, April 18, 2002

I took a chance on seeing if this artist would be on Amazon as I hit play once again on this CD. This is by far one of the best jazzy R&B, top-down smoothest CDs I own. Put this one in your CD rotation when having company, and I GUARANTEE everyone will ask who is it?

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL MUSIC, October 17, 2000

GARY TAYLOR IS AN EXCELLENT SINGER AND WRITER. THE SONGS ON THIS CD ARE SO SMOOTH AND CALMING. I AM A HUGE FAN OF GARY TAYLOR AND I HAVE ALL OF HIS CD'S. IT'S A REAL SHAME HOW SOME EXCELLENT ARTISTS CAN BE OVERLOOKED BY SO MANY PEOPLE. THE SONGS EYE TO EYE, HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE, BLIND TO IT ALL AND OF COURSE NEVER TOO BLUE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITES. THANK YOU VANESSA L. WILLIAMS FOR NOTICING A GREAT SINGER. I WILL ALWAYS BE A FAN. KEEP 'EM COMING GARY, YOU ARE IN MY TOP 5 FAVORITE MALE ARTISTS.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best romantic CD available!, December 5, 1998
By A Customer

I have been looking for this CD for months! It's the best. The music is very sensual and romantic. You feel what Gary is singing deep down in your bones. The content is clean, mature and reflect day to day life, not a dream world. Buy it to experience what I am talking about!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of soul music's finest!, September 18, 2003

I can highly recommend this superb CD to anyone who appreciates good soul music. But be aware, it may change your musical taste forever. You won't find any whining or begging here, but just beautiful soulful melodies with Gary's gorgeous vocals on top of it. And I always considered the more electronic approach Gary took on "Square One", with the heavy usage of drum computers and synths, a real treat because he undeniably shows that you can create always entertaining and amazing soul music without a full blown-up orchestra! This CD hasn't left my player since it came out 10 years ago and it is destined to stay there for another decade or even longer. Buy this and support true soul music...

4.0 out of 5 stars "Square One" grows on you..., April 16, 2002
This review is from: Square One (Audio CD)
Gary Taylor is one of the most consistent and talented R&B artists of the past couple of decades. By no means is this his best CD, but "Square One" delivers with elegant production, lush instrumentation and passionate lyrics, without a lot of the unneccessary bells, whistles, and carnal angst of his contemporaries. Most every song is excellent, though "Pieces" and "Restless" could have been omitted; they're not as worthwhile.

Overall, "Square One" holds up well for an album made in the early 1990s, though it's a little too synth-heavy (Taylor performs most of the keyboards that are the backbone of the music) and mid-tempo to be truly timeless. Despite this, it's worth the trip in the Way-Back Machine. If you're looking for classic "quiet storm" music for that laid-back afternoon or romanitc evening, by all means get back to "Square One."

5.0 out of 5 stars The Midwest Needs Square One, November 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Square One (Audio CD)
Gary Taylor's Square One is a great CD. I luckly had the opportunity to hear Square One while on a business trip to DC. A friend who lives in the district turned me on to this fabulous art piece. After hearing the CD, I had to purchase it to take home. Actually, it was great driving back to BWI airport via BWI parkway from DC while jamming to GT. I had to really watch myself until getting to the usual bottleneck on the parkway. The CD made a normally frustrating journey a very pleasureable experience. When I arrived back to Stl. and started turning-on folks here, not one person was remotely familiar with GT. It's not unusual, Stl is near the last to get anything that's jamming on the east coast. If the orgin is from the west coast it might have a more favorable chance. I'm luckly, I came here from VA., to work and get back east often. We need a great deal more of GT's stuff in this cow town to shake things up. "I need some help with this one" literally, please get some more of this kind of stuff out here. Hopefully, GT jamms are known in Chi-town. Send some jamms to the stations in Stl. P.S. I love this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Square One-Gary Taylor, August 23, 2007
This review is from: Aquare One (Audio CD)
Very sensous and rythmic CD. Gary at his best. I have owned 2 previous copies and worn them out. The cadence and beat of the music is almost primal and very condusive to romance.
