I have had several warranties with Square Trade and have filed a claim on two of them. In both instances the items were sent in as requested and emails were sent to me as the item was noted as being in-route, received, and evaluated. Both claims were paid promptly, properly, and without further discussion. This is a very good warranty service and I recommend it highly. I will also add that my wife worked(recently retired) for a consumer warranty company and I know that this company does an excellent job with their administrative services which, at times, can be a challenge.

"A true Warranty Horror Story: When my computer had trouble, SquareTrade asked for photos -- I sent them in within 12 hours of the request but NEVER HEARD BACK! After a week, I called and spoke with a new representative (not the original person, who had stopped responding to my emails), who tried to refuse my claim, as if by second nature. On multiple occasions, they offered to "buy back" my warranty. This is their tactic to effectively erase all evidence you had a warranty at all and avoid taking care of your claim. Finally, after the representative spoke with her "senior manager" they suddenly decided they could repair it (I suspect she never even talked to the manager -- these are just the tactics they use).

Days later, after SquareTrade missed multiple phone appointments which I had changed my schedule to accommodate, they denied my claim -- the technician's report contained multiple inconsistencies, but when I called to point out the inconsistenties, THE REPRESENTATIVE HUNG UP ON ME! He yelled at me, "You're not listening" and then -- click -- he hung up on me! After hanging up on me and without asking, they sent back my computer unrepaired.

TERRIBLE COMPANY -- THEY WILL LIE TO AVOID HONORING YOUR CLAIM. THEY WILL HANG UP ON YOU AND IGNORE YOUR CLAIM. They use their tactics to talk people out of their claims. If you are planning on using SquareTrade, consider yourself warned.

I like how those customers are leaving 5 star reviews, and somehow most of them have an HP notebook, oh and not the mention they only reviewed this warranty but nothing else, none of those reviews say "Amazon Verified Purchase", seriously its so desperate to come here and write fake reviews to attract customers, and fyi I checked all of those reviewers' profiles and only one of them reviewed another item. So be careful before you choose SquareTrade, my friend was not happy with his warranty, his iPad had a water damage and square trade did not cover it.

After I purchased a high-end refurbished laptop on Amazon along with this SquareTrade warranty I noticed that the contract read ‘new’. I contacted SquareTrade to correct that and have it changed to ‘refurbished’ and received the following email back:

“SquareTrade offers Protection Plans directly for new items only. Used and refurbished items are only eligible when purchased on eBay. Unfortunately, we are no longer offering warranties on a refurbished unit purchased from a retail store or website like Amazon. We made this decision because SquareTrade has found that the failure rate on refurbished items purchased from retailers are unacceptably high. Our responsibility to our insurer and our customers led to the decision not to warrant an item that has such a proven high failure rate.”

This policy is stated nowhere on this item listing - if I missed it please comment and let me know.

I contacted Amazon customer support to request they investigate this and enforce the three year warranty I purchased. SquareTrade then cancelled my warranty without my permission.

The take away here is: 1) SquareTrade has determined refurbished computers sold through Amazon are trash 2) the ones sold through eBay are fine 3) Amazon will not enforce warranty contractual obligations.

Great, no hassle warranty. Excellent too at keeping me informed as the process went along. Only reservation: they only insured the purchase price of the laptop. This was helpful, but I was still out the taxes, shipping, lost software (Office), and the local techie who trouble shot the laptop and told me that the failure was in the hard drive.

Isn't it funny how there are all of these reviews written within a few days of each other by 'people' who have never reviewed anything else on Amazon? And all of them just happen to give 5 stars - never 3 or 4. These are called 'sock puppets.' Go ahead, click on their profiles and see for yourself.

These people don't really exist. It sure looks like either Square Trade or a marketing firm acting on their behalf has spent some time creating fake accounts to drive the average rating on Amazon up to 5 stars. The practice is not unheard of.

Would you want to buy something from someone who is deliberately lying to you? I sure wouldn't.

Over the past few years, I have purchased over 20 SquareTrade equipment warranties. The primary reason is the peace of mind and value for the money. I used to sell warranties and knew they were a high profit item for the company. I NEVER used to purchase the sales store warranties, because they cost too much. SquareTrade has changed all that! They are very competitive on their warranties and I tell that to people all the time when they are confronted on buying a store warranty. I tell them to go to squaretrade.com and get a quote they will be pleasantly surprised with.

Well, stuff breaks and twice I have had to make a claim with SquareTrade. One was a small item, but recently I had a MAC laptop go kaput on me for $1,400.00! In both cases, I was settled with promptly, professionally and courteously. SquareTrade is the best!

First issue I had was I couldn't read the entire agreement until AFTER purchase, and then the full terms were sent via email and hyperlink.

Main problem I saw right away is that their "lemon" policy wasn't nearly as good as the "quick" amazon description in that it failed to note the limitation of needing 4 repair attempts ON THE SAME ISSUE before this policy kicked in. Boy, theoretically this could leave you without your new computer for MONTHS!

Further, Squaretrade reserves the right to use its sole discretion to decide if a "comparable" item be substituted (of equal or lesser value) or if a refund is issued. I don't like this ambiguity. This was reason enough for me to cancel and take my chances with the manufacturers warranty.

Your mileage may vary.

Although I just purchased the warranty service and never had to call them on it, I was impressed with the follow up calls from SquareTrade when I first made the purchase. They wanted to make sure that all my concerns were answered and my laptop was properly registered. Needless to say, it is quite reassuring knowing that they build their reputation on this type of service. I will keep you apprised of my warranty experience over the next three years.
