Editorial Reviews

Fans of wild British Invasion era rock ‘n’ roll take note! The Kaisers, more than any other modern band, have taken the mid-’60s Mersey style to heart and have come up with one of the most primal, enjoyable, realistic albums in a long time. Their choice of covers and original material are about as authentic sounding as you can get and yet there is still a freshness that is so often lacking from other "retro-garage" outfits. From the vocal harmonies, to the production, to the energy, everything is perfect. It’ll make you want to listen to the Beatles and the Zombies all over again. Promise!

4.0 out of 5 stars UNCANNY time-warp to 1963!, July 6, 2000

From Scotland via London's Toe Rag Studios (the same place responsible for EDDIE ANGEL'S GUITAR PARTY and 2 albums by The Neanderthals) come this overwhelmingly terrific debut album. Recorded in a single day by producer Liam Watson, this captures the sound of The Kaisers' stage show MORE accurately than George Martin did when he recorded The Beatles' PLEASE PLEASE ME-- the obvious comparison. I've seen more and more bands these days whose music harkens back to older-yet-still-valid styles, but-- apart from a few songs by The Rutles (or Utopia on their DEFACE THE MUSIC album) I've never heard ANYBODY capture the whole look, sound & feel of the early Beatles with such absolutely accuracy-- right down to the package design & the liner notes. They even do 3 of the same songs The Fab Four covered back when, including "Some Other Guy" and "Soldier Of Love" (see LIVE AT THE BBC). For those who never had a chance to see the lads from Liverpool at their rawest (and some might argue, their most exciting), THE KAISERS are here to fill the bill! GOOD God, I hope these guys come through Philly again sometime!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Kaisers thee Quintessential beat Revivalists!, December 22, 2007
By
Lilly Quildon (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Squarehead Stomp! (Audio CD)
The first Kaiser song I heard was "You got to keep her under hand" from a radio station in Toronto some maybe 10 years ago. I catagorically thought it was from the mid 60's, definatly not the 90's. If it fooled me it's got to be good! The covers of their albums are typically styled in a 60's fashion, so are their clothes. The recordings are in mono typical for 60's music in general, they may be using instruments from that era and they just gotta be using old retro amplifiers! It is so authentic to the beat sound as you can get...Anywhere! Their raw energy especially the early stuff like Squarehead and "Twist with the Kaisers" is so good it's an artform! I've heard many beat revivalists, this group takes first prize! A pity this raw line-up couldn't have lasted longer. The tracks on Squarehead Stomp are good but a tad rushed. This being said though it's still very enjoyable to listen to and should not deter you from purchasing their cd's!
Thanks for reading....
