I decided to buy this book as I have been using Squarespace 6 since Jan 2013. Squarespace 6 has great designed templates but the interface is far from user friendly, and I wanted to have a general overview, and to learn a good way of working in Squarespace 6. I watched most of the videos on the tutorial sites of Squarespace, used a lot answers.squarespace.com to learn hidden features, but still, it felt I'm not really there.

Before, I used Dreamweaver, and Google Sites extensively. The difficulty in Squarespace 6 is that while in Dreamweaver or Google Sites there are two views, an editor view and a "live view", in Squarespace 6 there are four different views to maintain a site (Content Manager, Style editor, (Admin) preview, and Live view), all with different features, and settings. Icons and names are often different from generally used conventions, settings are often hidden if cascading menus and boxes, or features in different places need to be combined.
For example to set an custom pictures for the page heading, first one has to go to Content Editor\ [Page] \ Page settings \ Thumbnail image \ Upload, then switch to Preview \ Style editor \ [Advanced settings] \ Header section \ Page Thumbnail as Banner - ON.

The Squarespace site offers a number of tutorial pieces, including videos in many cases. This book does not provide any improvement over the on site aids. What I was hoping for was some hands on tutorials that show step by step how to develop a site. If you're looking for a summary in one place of Squarespace type aids this book provides it. If you want or need well thought out help in using the site, this book does not provide it, at least in my opinion.

This brilliant book helped me through a very challenging phase in my work. Even as a fairly young person, I'm quite old school—still work mostly off pen & paper. I came to computers very late—to say nothing of web design. Having been frustrated with talented but single-minded web designers who failed to implement my instructions, I decided to explore Square Space. At first, I could not do it. This is where Mr. Black's book came in. Quite frankly, I surprised even myself—thanks to the author's instructions, I managed to create two modest but perfectly workable and presentable websites. Above all, it feels so great to be fully in control of my sites' content and be able to perform instant updates myself without being enslaved to a webdesigner. Highly recommend this book.

This book is so basic that its really like a tour guide and sales brochure that's missing the map and directions. Now, imagine a brochure selling you on this romantic tropical vacation. Completely excited you buy it and you're pumped to learn more about starting your vacation and everything included; yet, your "vacation" book doesn't tell you where your vacation is, what to bring, how to get to your room that you paid for, the length of you vacation and even the resorts name. That example essentially describes the emotions you will feel about getting this book. It's a ton of stuff you can simply figure out online much easier.

Bottom line, the worst purchase on my kindle to date

As a complete beginner, maybe even a Dummy, when it came to the world of web design and Squarespace, this guide quickly got me up to speed and confident in its use. My website looks great!
