Creative and funny,
This review is from: Squatter With a Lexus (Paperback)
I laughed so many times while reading this short novel. Part of the humor was provided by the unusual structure, the ever-increasing list of newly introduced characters. You don't need to keep track of the characters--just go with the hilarious flow. This writer seems to be breaking the rules of conventional fiction on purpose and with wonderful results.

As I read Squatter With a Lexus, I found myself thinking about how well written the dialogue was. Unfortunately, I wasn't following the assortment of varied characters as well as I could have, so I needed to backtrack a few times to see who said what, thereby messing up the story's rhythm. It was a much better than average story, but lacked a truly excellent plot or well defined characters. This is the first of Tom Lichtenberg I've read, but it will not be my last.

It started out with great promise but I found it died too soon. I found it predictable and wanted better character closure. Well written, though.

I found this book confusing at times. Looking now, I see that I actually read book 2 of 3. I have the others and I guess the thing to do would be to read them and see if #1 makes a difference. Perhaps I will adjust my review later...The main thing that confused me is the excessive number of characters in the story. I nearly had to start a list to keep them all straight. The ending is anti-climactic after the drama of the various characters, but I guess my disgust made the book a little more memorable than others I have read so its not really a con. I have to give it at least 3 stars- it WAS well-written, creatively told, and an engaging read. Characters weren't especially deep but given that the author rotated through them very quickly so it wasnt as necessary as it would be in a more traditional novel. Overall, dispite my mixed feelings, it is worth the read. Enjoy!

A very short story consisting of many weak "back stories" about characters in the plot. Definitely not a "pager turner that can't be put down." I struggled through about 20 pages equivalent and then discarded it.It is not worth the download cost! I downloaded at$0.00 cost -- enough said. |
