4.0 out of 5 stars Squeaky Gourmet
When I first received this cookbook, I was very disappointed. From the reviews and the author's website, I had the impression that there would be a picture for each recipe. This is not true; there are few pictures. I thought that it was a bit overpriced for the fact that is it not hardcover. The first recipe I tried had a typo (Southwestern Burgers). I was...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the "clean" I was looking for

When I first received this cookbook, I was very disappointed. From the reviews and the author's website, I had the impression that there would be a picture for each recipe. This is not true; there are few pictures. I thought that it was a bit overpriced for the fact that is it not hardcover. The first recipe I tried had a typo (Southwestern Burgers). I was disappointed when I was flipping through the recipes because none of that really got me excited to try them.

Nonetheless, I tried them anyway and everything I've tried has been delicious. Although the recipes are VERY simple, they are delicious. I thought they would be too boring because there are so little ingredients required, but this is not the case. If price is not an issue for you, I would purchase this cookbook.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the "clean" I was looking for, March 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Squeaky Gourmet: Simple. Clean. Food. (Paperback)
As a busy graduate student and mom to 5 children (all living at home), I'm not one to give reviews normally. With this book though I really felt the need to. I ordered this book because it was grouped with other books on "clean" eating, which is something I strive toward achieving for my family. My definition of clean eating involves a movement away from processed foods. The other books I viewed when I ordered this one were the kind of "clean" I was aiming for, this one was definitely not. In spite of that I kept the book on the premise that I'd modify it to suit my needs. I used it for the first time this past week and was very disappointed. I understand that the authors are not chefs, and never required that to begin with, but there's a drastic difference between a skilled cook who writes a cook book and what this book delivers. I was shocked at how many mistakes and simple errors there were in this book. It really came across that the book was not written by someone that knew what they were doing in the kitchen. I ended up abandoning the recipe I chose to make midway through and completely revising it to make it work out better. I was left wondering if this book ever crossed the desk of a competent editor. Take home message: if your definition of clean eating is to limit your processed food intake, or you're an inexperienced cook, and/or you don't feel like having to modify and edit the recipes on the fly, then this is definitely NOT the book for you. If on the other hand you're open to translating the recipes in this book into usable recipes, then maybe it's worth buying it as food for thought/inspiration. If I had to do it over with I wouldn't have ordered this book. It's definitely not what I was looking for, and definitely not written well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just Another Cookbook!, October 23, 2008

Just received my copy of Squeaky Gourmet and am thrilled! Clean, crisp, easy to follow. Great writeups on eating healthy, and not the same old boring recipes. They are quick, easy and use ingredients we tend to forget about; quinoa, sweet potatoes, using meats from chicken to wild game. Also gives ideas for side dishes and leftovers. It is a full-size book, so it's not going to get lost in a drawer. The nutritional values for each recipe are very nice, takes out the guesswork, and helps to show that eating tastefully, does not have to ruin a days work of so called dieting. Everyone on my Christmas list is getting one this year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eating clean is now Easy and Delicious!!, September 15, 2008
This review is from: Squeaky Gourmet: Simple. Clean. Food. (Paperback)
If you are anything like me, you are frustrated by the lack of "healthy cookbooks" out there. I am someone that strives to eat clean(er) and healthy but I am also a "foodie". I don't want to sacrifice taste and the enjoyment of a good meal just to save some calories. Enter Squeaky Gourmet... delicious, easy to make recipes that are also good for you! I'm in Heaven! The cookbook is easy to read, breaks down the nutritional values of each dish (boy do I hate having to calculate those), and has the most gorgeous binding/photos. Finally, I am exciting to be cooking again! No recipes where heavy cream is the main ingredient, or super rare ingredients that I can't pronounce (or afford). Awesome cookbook for everyday, healthy, delicious food!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean Eating Meets Good Home Cooking, February 27, 2009
This review is from: Squeaky Gourmet: Simple. Clean. Food. (Paperback)
Squeaky Clean is a true rarity-a cookbook filled with healthy dishes that you and your family will actually LIKE. No weird ingredients no one can actually find, no funky "healthy" meals that your kids will turn their noses up at. Just simple, healthy REAL foods that taste GOOD. The authors also offer considerable advice on the right kinds of foods to eat. There are even charts with good choices if you need ideas, as well as information on why the foods listed are clean.

I have only just started to delve into my copy, but I have to say, with such delicious looking and sounding recipes, it won't be long before I've worked my way through this book! The photos made me hungry immediately, and the recipes are as good as they look. My only complaints are that the book is not spiral bound (an issue I have with most cookbooks), and that Squeaky Gourmet 2 isn't out yet! I really hope that Maureen and Jamie are already back in their kitchens cooking up more wonderful clean meals for us :-))

5.0 out of 5 stars An ABSOLUTE must have for any kitchen!, January 29, 2009

I was really impressed with the Squeaky Gourmet.. This is no ordinary cookbook! Not only does it have wonderful easy to use recipes.. it also provided a plethora of nutritional information. I love how the book explains what protein, carbs, and fats are..as well as provides the breakdown of nutritional values for each recipe!

This book is great for someone who is really wanting to incorporate "clean" eating without getting bored! It can be frustrating for the "new-be" or the old-timer with clean eating.. so it was very refreshing to see so many great recipes using REAL food!!

Honestly, it was fun flipping thru every page.. always some interesting tidbit of information to discover.

I could go on and on.. this is now a "staple" item in my kitchen..

Thank you Squeaky Gourmet!

I love this book! Compared to other cookbooks I own, this one is much, much easier to read and use. I love how clear and appetizing the pictures are. I am also happy to see a book on clean eating that doesn't involve expensive ingredients or complicated, hard-to-follow recipes. The "Other Good Ideas" at the bottom of each recipe really comes in handy too. This recipe book is great for Moms trying to lose weight/get in shape. I am recommending it to all my friends and family!
