4.0 out of 5 stars cute children's book February 21, 2011
By Allison
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a cute Christmas story about a little (young) elf who wants to be grown up. He sneaks back in to the toy room when the grown-ups have gone, in order to prove his grown-up abilities. Needless to say, the results aren't exactly as planned. Our dear little elf must decide - stay and fess up to the problems or run. Which does he pick? What are the results? Let's just say Santa *always* knows who has been naughty or nice.

The book does have some cute pictures, but is certainly not predominantly pictures. It is an appropriate length, and of light enough content to make a pretty good bedtime story. I'd guess a 4 to 5 year old would be the best age range for the book.

Text to speech: if you are used to listening to the TTS it isn't bad, but there are a number of places where backquotes are used and the TTS voice says the word "backquote" each time. That might be distracting to your younger listeners.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too big for your britches April 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Squidge is set for youth ages 4-8, and the next time my god children come over I plan to have them read it to me and ask if they like it. As an adult I can see where a child would be entertained by the story, the pictures are clear and the story is about what someone in that age group can identify with.
The theme of the story is when we make mistakes we cannot run and hide from them we have to stand up and face the consequences. A much needed concept for our children today. An underlining theme stay a child for as long as you can, because when you try to grow to fast you make mistakes moving in a larger world.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK, I guess February 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Cute pictures are the main thing this book has going for it. The story itself is kind of insipid. My 6 year old liked it ok, and he is more the target audence. Mostly I'm glad I did not pay for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars big idea, little size February 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I found this book delightful. It is for children, but this story was very touching. I got on the website at the back of the book, and it had a very good plan for teachers and parents.

My daughter is four years old and she said to give this story four stars. She really liked it a lot, and she liked Squidge. But she said there were still some stories that she likes better.
