Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 2-4. This small, square volume from the Weird Wonders of the Deep series provides information about the physical features and behaviors of squids, invertebrates that range in length from one inch to 60 feet. Each double-page spread introduces a new topic ("Beak and Tentacles" or "A Quick-Change Artist," for example), with two or three paragraphs of text on the left-hand page facing a color photo on the right. Weber offers plenty of unusual facts about squids to keep children interested. The format suggests a very young audience, but the book's vocabulary will be difficult for some primary grade students to read independently. A glossary and lists of books and Internet sites are appended. Another new volume in the series is Weber's Coelacanth: The Living Fossil. Carolyn Phelan
