Product Description

Stop Dreaming, Start Playing! Set: Affinity Series Tele with Fender Frontman 15G Amp Squier is delighted to introduce its very first Telecaster pack, which puts the time-honored tone, look and vibe of the world’s first great solid-body electric guitar in a value-filled pack that also includes a punchy 15-watt Fender Frontman 15G amp to plug it into and all the accessories you need, including an electronic tuner, instructional DVD, gig bag, cable, strap and picks. Squier Affinity Series Telecaster is available in Butterscotch Blonde with single-ply black pickguard and Brown Sunburst with a three-ply black/white/black pickguard, and features two singing single-coil pickups, rock-solid bolt-on maple neck and a sharp new gold-and-black Squier headstock logo. Fender Frontman 15G amp features dual channels (“normal” and “drive”), adjustable gain control that rocks guitar tones from tube-emulated overdrive to full-strength ultra-saturated distortion (perfect for blues, metal and the famous Fender clean tone), along with volume, treble and bass controls, 8-Inch Special Design speaker, closed-back design for heavier bass response, auxiliary input and headphone jack, and classic black panel/skirted knob/silver grille cloth looks. You get guitar, amp, accessories and instruction all at once, and more than ever it’s everything you need to Stop Dreaming and Start Playing!

Nice sound, stays in tune and very comfortable to hold.

It is much more like the Squier Standard Telecaster (both made in Indonesia) than the regular Affinity (China).

And the Frontman amp has great tone and punch for a little practice amp.

The product description is wrong. It is for the "stand alone" Affinity. The one in this package has 22 frets, a fatter neck, and is a "string through" (as opposed to the regular top-loader). It is much more like the Squier Standard Telecaster (both made in Indonesia) than the regular Affinity (China). I do not know if it has different pickups. Speaking of which; do not be afraid of these ceramic pickups. They are fine. I had planned to immediately replace mine, but have decided that I don't want to do anything to change this beautiful, spanky, Tele tone. The neck pickup is a little dark if you are used to something like a Stratocaster, but that's a Telecaster for you. It's normal. The fretwork is perfect, with smooth edges. The body finish had minor imperfections, but none are really obvious. I recommend tamping down the string ferrules on the back, as they may not be completely seated, and may cause tuning stability problems until they get broken in if you don't. I recommend upgrading the cheap, dime sized potentiometers.

But the secret isn't about the description here at Amazon. It's about the fact that few people know about this guitar because everyone, including the Fender/Squier site, has it wrong.

I didn't keep the amp long enough to really evaluate it. (I already had better amps, and bought this package after discovering "the secret". It was the only way to get it.) But I do remember that the amp was rather punchy, and surprisingly loud for a little 15 watt. And it just screams "Fender". But don't expect to play gigs with it, or even to practice with a band.

Look, I'm no expert on all things guitar, but I've been playing guitar for decades, and started concentrating on electrics about 15 years ago. So I know a little. If you are looking for classic Fender tone on a budget, a good starter (maybe even the best), or are looking for a guitar "platform" to do upgrades on, this is it.

I bought this guitar as my first electric.
The guitar itself is a beautiful color - much nicer in the flesh, with a natural brown wood look and sunburst edge.
It actually looks really gorgeous, stunning and classy.

The Pros:
- Clear, twangy country tones from a single coil on the bridge which is what Telecaster is all about.
- Very affordable
- Looks amazing
- Metal cable socket
- Lightweight
- No fret buzz,
- Great ergonomics
- Secure buttons
- The black pickguard (with a white stripe on the bezel) looks nicer than the white one on proper Fenders or Squiers that are not part of a pack

The Cons:
- There was a small speck of black on the body (about 5 mm long) which had been lacquered over, so it was perfectly smooth, but it looked like a piece of residual plastic.
- There were a couple of black scuffs on the back of the neck (about 1/2" long).
- The switches are cheap. The 2 knobs turn at an angle - not flush with the body and the 3-way switch is a thin piece of metal with a rubber caps that falls off easily.
- The fret bars were rough and stuck out at the bottom of the neck. On the one hand, you can feel where your frets are easy :) - but they need filing down
- I prefer a more glossy neck than this flat feel
- Reviews say the finish wears off very fast
- Getting the film off the pickguard requires goo gone.

The amp is basic. On full volmne it is loud enough for indoor practice at home, and is therefore perfect for this purpose, but it isn't loud. I think if you had a full band playing you might be pushing it, and you wouldn't be able to hear it in a big room / bar with people talking.

For a cheap guitar that has a country tone and good look, this is probably the best option to get started on.
But in a year or so, you'll want a Fender and a better amp.

This starter pack, consisting of the Fender Squier Affinity Tele and the Fender Frontman 15 G amp as well as various accessories, is excellent for a beginner. The guitar is perfect for me. Nice sound, stays in tune and very comfortable to hold. The amp is ok, but certainly nothing special. Would buy again without hesitation.

Great sound for the $$$ . I am a beginner and didn't want to invest thousands at this point . Great sound options too for a mini amp. Very Happy. First one I got had a faulty pickup switch , Exchange with Amazon could not have been smoother or faster.
