I got this guitar for my 9 year old son, He loves it.

The bridge on the E string was too low and causing some buzzing against the fret initially, but a quick adjustment and no problem.

This is a great guitar for beginners, especially kids!

We bought this for our 8 year old daughter over a year ago. It is well made, with a rosewood fretboard, and a hardtail bridge. The instrument was the perfect size for her. It has a good strong tone and consistent notes from low to high strings. The saddle is solid and the strings stay in tune well. I did a lot of research into this and after a year of playing it, am still convinced that this is the best instrument for a child, or anyone with smaller hands, to learn on.

Please be kind with my playing skills ;-) The video and audio was recorded with an old Canon Ixus 30, it' sole purpose is just to give you all an idea of the sound to expect from this instrument.

My daughter wanted an electric guitar for Christmas. Her main criteria: PINK!! and nothing else...

So to sum up the wish list:
* E-guitar for 6 year old
* PINK!!!
* light weight
* easy to play
* reasonable quality
* and did I mention it has to be PINK!!! ;-)

After some googling and viewing reviews it all came down to just one model available fulfilling the above criteria.

FENDER SQUIER Strat MINI pink.

To important specs that are not available on the Squier/Fender page:
* the width on the 20. fret is about 56 mm
* the weight is 2.16 kg

So not only the scale but also the fretboard in the overall geometry is shrunk compared to a regular size, which is an important difference to some of the competitor models. This makes it particularly suitable as a child guitar.

I have had my red Mini for about 6 years now. And I still am in awe over how fantastic it is for a small-scale Fender. In fact, I get a richer tone out of it than I do with my standard size Ibanez, which is just collecting dust. I don't think the Squier Mini is just for kids or students at all. I am 38 and have been playing guitar for 22 years. It is ideal for anyone with small hands, or someone who just finds the neck and action of large guitars too hard or uncomfortable to manage. I would suggest you compare this to a standard guitar in person. But for the price, this guitar can't be beat.

OK, lets get this right, it is a $99 guitar from Fender / Squire. One person spoke of wishing it's strings were a few inches longer. If you want that, and a normal strat 25.5 inch scale, buy a Strat. This is for smaller hands, or a smaller person, or a youngster, or someone like I who had broken his left hand. MIne came set up very well, but I lowered the action, adjusted intonation, which, though some reviewers disagree, was a total breeze. I changed the strings to 10's which naturally on a short scale guitar, helped the tone. If you can handle 11's, they would probably be even better. If you are just starting, stick with the 9's on there. String spacing is a little close for me, but not unhandelable. Just remember is is scaled down in all measurements, not just scale length. I have found it such a good guitar that I invested in new pickups that have this thing singing. Everyone has their own taste. There are reasons to get this guitar and there are reasons to upgrade it if you want. All in all, for $99 you would be hard pressed to find anything better. Every Strat I have owned has needed fret leveling. This may need some, but for $99, who cares. It is when you buy a $1500 guitar and then find the frets need some work that you get angry. This also is so much easier to play then an acoustic guitar for kids just starting out. Not saying one is better, but if I had this as a kid, I would have played much more. It is just a fun instrument and can sound incredibly good.

Wonderful starter guitar. I recently sat down with one, played for most of twelve hours, and felt no pain at all. The action is extremely low, but there's no fret buzzing. If I ever want one to travel with, I'd buy this mini without hesitation.

I've been playing for over 20 years, and I was really excited when my 7 year old daughter asked for a guitar for Christmas. I bought her a mini strat in red after trying it out a guitar center. It plays amazing for something in this price range! Yes, the strings are a little slack, but that's not bad for a new player with small hands. It's a great size and weight for a small player. She's a 3/4-side person (at just over 4 ft tall), so I figure a 3/4 sized guitar is perfect.

My daughter feels like a total rock star when she puts it on and has been practicing basic chords and scales for the past month. She's really starting to get the hang of it. She'll probably outgrow this guitar in a couple of years, but if she keeps at it she'll be a great player by then.
