The neck is Jazz bass style with a comfortable string spacing.
Lance Holland
This bass has looks and style, the finish was nice, frets are well seated and the build quality is actually pretty good, too.
Patti Cake
Fender offers a hardshell case but it costs as much as the instrument.

Is this really a 5-star bass guitar? No...but for $170, I don't think you could get a better guitar and therefore, I feel that I have to mark it as "I love it!"
The black with the matching black headstock looks great! The tuners are actually very high quality and it stays in tune.
The neck is smooth, the frets are smooth and the sound is amazing.
This is the perfect bass for a guitarist looking for a bass in order to record bass lines behind your guitar recordings.

I've read the rave reviews regarding this bass for over 1-year. I decided to take the plunge because I wanted a bass that is very light, (my Jazz bass is more than 10 lbs), one I could bang around, and one that was easy on my aging hands and fingers --what a pleasant surprise. The craftsmanship for a bass at this price point is spot-on. Initially it was tough getting the intonation to stabilize, but after playing it a couple of days it settled down. The P pickup is better than the Jazz pickup, but I'm using it for that Jamerson Motown sound and to practice, practice, practice. I went a step further and installed my favorite strings -- D'darrio Nickels (short scale version); it was an instant moment of bass sounding bliss. Listen, it's incredibly tough to beat this instrument at this price-point; I bought the black one and thinking about a red one too so I will have one to "hot rod"! Recommendation: buy it; immediately change the strings and get a set up ; wax the body to preserve the paint job and enjoy, enjoy. Be safe--be well.

First off, just buy this. Its a great bass for the price. Im a guitarist that just needed something to mess around on and do some home recordings. Try to check one out fist at your local GC if you can, but you wont be disappointed with the playability and tone.

PRO:
-Affordable
-Thin neck, which is great for folks with smaller hands.
-Tone from the P-Bass (split coil) pickup is great! Surprising deep and round.
-Light weight
-over all workmanship very good

CONS:
-The packaging, my box was all kinds of torn up, and looked like at had already been opened. Bass comes wrapped a thin sheet of packing foam.
-Desperately needed setting up. If you are new to guitar maintenance and setup you're going to need some help.
-Bridge pickup is a joke. SUPER low output compared to the split coils...
-frets are little uneven, neck too some time to set up.
-silver electronics pate was a little pitted (not the best hardware)
-volume and tone pots have a horribly short taper.

In conclusion although my cons list is long, I'm still super happy with my new bass. It gets the job done and it's fun to play. You truly get what you pay for with this one. But what you get ain't bad at all :)

I rate mine at 2.5 stars. It's a great bass, looks great, is fun to play, and sounds good. But the sloppy quality control and cosmetic workmanship are balloon busters. You might have to work really hard to get a good one shipped to you. The first one came out of the (Single?!) shipping box with ugly scratches on the chrome, and factory tool dings and careless handling scratches on the body. The scratches and dings in the chrome and body finish look like they happened when the chrome plate and knobs were installed. The protective plastic covering the pick guard looked like someone had dragged a cinderblock over it - the scrapes in the plastic over the pick guard were deep and went under the strings. That could only happen at the factory before they boxed the bass. I didn’t even take the protective plastic off the pick guard - I returned the bass.

The second bass came out the box and looked great at first. The body finish was OK and there was one small ding on the chrome that buffed out with a microfiber cloth. I peeled off the protective plastic and the pick guard was covered with nasty scratches and a couple of tool dings and trails that looked like a tool hit and dinged the pick guard and then dragged a few centimeters over the pick guard. Some of the scratches and dings were under the strings. The strings were set so low that there were buzzes all over thew fretboard. Sloppy work.

The back of the first bass’s neck had a coarse feeling finish. The second bass’s neck was smooth.

The third bass was the best of the three: a few scratches in the pick guard, a couple of light dings on the body, and some light scuffing on the black finish. The set up’s OK and the neck is smooth. Amazon discounted it as a Blem, and that’s fine, it’s a keeper. But, it was way too much work.

Just received this bass the day before yesterday. I did a lot of looking around for a lightweight short-scale bass and this is probably the best one out there short of having one custom built. My main reason for going short-scale is to replace my old G&L bass which weighed 11 lbs, and was aggravating my back problems. Holding it up side-by-side with my American Stratocaster it weighs less than the guitar. The Strat probably weighs in around 7 - 8 lbs. I'm also only 5'7" with short, stubby fingers, and have always found full 34" scale basses difficult to navigate quickly around the fretboard. It's like they're made for giants.

For beginners it's a decent bass to start out with. It's great for those with small fingers, guitarists who just play bass occasionally (like me), kids starting out, or anyone else who just wants a short-scale to goof around with. It still booms the low frequencies like my old bass, so don't worry about the short scale nerfing your tone. And there's something about the scale and weight that makes it a lot of fun to play. For my purposes I'm using the body and neck as a platform to make a pro quality bass. I'll be replacing the hardware, electronics, nut, and pickups with high quality components since I may be using it onstage with my band and it's replacing a high-end G&L. I'll probably be spending another $250 or so past the initial investment to get it to where I want it to be. Already ordered some Fender American Standard pickups. Very exciting!

Great quality for the price, OK pickups and hardware - what can you expect from a bass that retails for less than $200? It has a great feeling neck, nice paint, I love the Jaguar body shape, and I like the way the controls work. Frets on mine came nicely polished with smooth ends.
