More About the Author

Taro Gomi is probably best known in the UK for the highly popular Doodle Books, although his creative genius actually extends much further than the few translations that have appeared in English. The total number of his books in print in Japan exceeds three hundred, including children's books, art books, essay collections, and more. Gomi's books appeal to both adults and children-- since most of them consist mainly of pictures, they can be enjoyed by anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars not your ordinary coloring book December 26, 2007
Format:Paperback
I'm so glad I bought this! I bought it for my 7 year old daughter (I bought Doodles for my other dd) and both girls were absorbed for a while with the books. The pages have much more than just pictures to color - it has little starter drawings and asks you to complete the picture. It's so perfect for the older child who is a bit beyond just coloring in the lines, but still provides some structure. Knowing how to read will make this book a more enjoyable experience for your child. Also, it's a very thick book - I originally bought it as a stocking stuffer, but it's way too thick for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE February 15, 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is a must have. It is great for developmental learning and gives children directions that are easy to follow. I have worked with kids for several years and wish these books were out a long time ago so I could have spread the word sooner. Truly great books.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a coloring book---its an art book! August 25, 2008
Format:Paperback
This is a must have book! My children typically are quickly bored with coloring books----but this is so much more than a coloring book. It encourages the children to add their own imagination and DRAW and DOODLE along with the artist. Taro Gomi's style is very whimsical and not intimidating for a child to add on to. My children LOVE their books and treat them almost reverantly. When the book is finished you have a THICK book of all their work in one book---sort of like an artbook. I know some people may be a bit turned off initially by the price---but its worth every last cent. Its a VERY THICK book that will keep your child's attention and nurture their own creativity. My children don't dare a skip a page---they have been completing the book in order (not necessary, but that's how much they love it) as they want to do every last page. If this book seems too large for you, his latest book 365 days is very good and half the size (but equally thick).

This is a great doodle book for kids. I gave it to my niece for Christmas. It is fun, creative and big so it is easy for younger kids to doodle inside.
