Book Description

Bradt Travel Guide January 1, 2006
Sri Lanka is historically a favorite Indian Ocean destination for travelers, and post-tsunami visitor levels are anticipated to return to normal as visitors support the island's recovery. In this new edition a complete range of coastal resorts are covered for the tourist looking to unwind, whilst a variety of activities and attractions will tempt visitors to explore the interior of the island, untouched by the tsunami. Suggestions on places to visit include temples and shrines, the elephant orphanage at Pinnawela, botanical and zoological gardens, and a pilgrimage to the top of Adam's Peak by night to watch the sunrise.
Features include:
*Final research for this new edition carried out post-tsunami
*Author a long-term Sri Lanka resident
*Coverage of national parks, natural history, and a wide range of watersports
*"Giving something back" section on traveling responsibly, particularly reflecting support of local charities and rebuilding projects

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Sri Lanka, like a teardrop at the tip of India, is a land of contrasts: home of dynamic cricket and surf-lapped beaches; hilly tea plantations and elephants plodding through the traffic; temples, colonial bungalows and botanical gardens--this is a fascinating island with various attractions to tempt the curious.
Researched in the aftermath of the tsunami by local resident Royston Ellis, this new edition presents a country ready again to welcome visitors. While coastal resorts delight those wanting to unwind, Sri Lanka will also enchant those interested in history, culture, wildlife and adventure. This guide is the ideal companion.

*New coverage of areas previously off-limits
*Getting around, with the best train journeys for visitors
*Local perspective on accommodation and restaurants
*Watersports, river rafting, trekking and other activities
*National parks and wildlife
*Culture, entertainment and festivals

2.0 out of 5 stars if you love the beach this is the book for you..., March 10, 2006
This review is from: Sri Lanka, 2nd: The Bradt Travel Guide (Paperback)
This travel book was a bit disappointing, I bought this book because it was the most recently published book on travel in Sri Lanka. It is a great book if you plan to only go to the beach and Colombo. It has very little information on the interior of the country. For a more well rounded book I would get the lonely planet guide instead.
