Wildly Eclectic Psychedelic Lounge Space Guitar Rock,

Wow. The gods sorta dumped this one in my path last week and I haven't been able to put it down. The opening track alone is enough to just make you trash everything after 1969 and become a retro-nik bobbing up and down in a Joshua Light Show. It's all oddly current, somehow. I suppose good things just don't die. Imagine your favorite Pink Floyd/Iron Butterfly passages fed through some herky-jerky speed metal but infused with the spirit of Italian lounge film composer Piero Piccioni and then you have an idea of what lies herein. Track 1 is worth the purchase price alone: it sounds like Fellini on psychedelics.Permanent rotation.

Trippy modern French pop,

A brilliantly executed set of dense, exuberant high-tech mix'n'match pop, made by the French producer who has sculpted some of April March's glossier recent efforts. This is a seamless merger of retro-'60s melodicism and bouncy trip-hoppish pop, similar to Katerine or Dominique A, but a bit less cerebral and a bit more likely to induce actual booty shaking. The chorus on "Sunshine Yellow" ("...white powder/biochemical reaction...") really gave me the creeps when I heard it following the post-September 11th anthrax mail scare, even though the song is just about doing the laundry. Great record... recommended!

...je me dirais, "bien fait, bertrand..."the cd is worth getting for track number 4 alone (if you speak french). other than that, the others are pretty good (not earth-shattering, but pleasant). kind of 'variete' meets techno-lounge. a bit long/tedious at times, but nice for a long drive or zone-out evening. but for me it's all about track 4 - sheer french hilarity in all its subtle pseudo-snob glory. love it or leave it.

Genius, actually,

This is an essential record from a most talented, wild, loving producer-songwriter and genius in his own right, Bertrand. "Ma Rencontre" and "Gris Metal" are worth the record alone, and you will find that Bertrand has a nonchalant grasp of craft and reference that in no way obstruct his vision. Plainly speaking, many of the songs are perfect he, unlike Benjamin Biolay for instance, adheres to a complete vision, that in spite of its own perfection, disregards the mirror for the sake of fun. This is an important record, with one wonderful sexy song, and many other dreamy/breathy/synthesizer-full tracks. Of course, the lyrics are marvellous, but I am sure you'll get the vibes - francophone or not.

l'observatoire is great!,

I first heard of Bertrand Burgalat on a Banana Republic CD (SOIREE). They put L'OBSERVATOIRE on it (track number 11 hehe) and I looooved it! It's kind of got a sleepy, lazy, modernish laid back tone; it's nice and relaxing for a cruise down a scenic road, or for just listening to at home. so yep, here I am! This is a great CD...gotta have it!

Aerial journey of ilimitable French reverie...,

It seems like I've had an extremely pulchritudinous dream after listening for "The Sssound Of Mmmusic." Bertrand's music expresses manifold gradations, bracing, urbane, dramatic, velvety, and also modish. All in all, it's distinguished with molto odoriferous arias. Bertrand has a bland, nay a palatable bariton that grows on the listeners. "Cris Metal" and"Coeur Inapaise" are both the consummate ones in this album.

"Bonjour Bertrand",

This review is from: Sssound of Mmmusic (Audio CD)
There is a bunch of very interesting music coming from France and, fortunately, it's neither bad rock'n'roll (a la Johnny Halliday) nor chanson. Bertrand Burgulat, as far as I know, is a producer and now he made his first album himself. Some of the songs on this album, in particular "Ma Rencontre", are totally amazing, some others aren't that great. But in any case, this CD is a nice addition for any CD collection because it makes you smile. And that's not a bad thing for music to do.
