Book Description

March 2001
Illustrated with detailed drawings that show every bunker, hazard, and fairway contour, this guide to one of the world's most famous golf courses explains how to play St. Andrews every step of the way, hole-by-hole and shot-by-shot. Color photographs depict the course from the ground and by air and, when combined with the drawings, allow the golfer to grasp the overall difficulty and complexity of the course. Also included are anecdotes about dramatic shots that have been played on the course and an analysis of the design, history, wind patterns, and vegetation for each hole from the perspective of a master golf-course architect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Old Course Commentary, January 11, 2007

This review is from: St Andrews: How to Play the Old Course (Hardcover)
It's hard to read anything about the Old Course and St. Andrews without loving it. Muirhead's thoughts are well-taken, even if a little off-base from my perspective. Anyone's method of playing the Old Course, unlike almost any other in golf (possible exceptions include National Golf Links), require a personal investigation of spirit and attitude. I doubt anyone who has played the Old Course on several occasions has two remotely similar experiences...it seems each and every one is like "loving again for the first time".
