Awesome Rod, a few issues but VERY nice,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: St. Croix Legend Series Surf Rods Model: LSS106MHMF2 Spin (10' 6", MH, 2 pc.) (Misc.)
I purchased this rod and surf fish down in southern baja Mexico near Cabo. The rod is very light, one of my lightest, and of great build. The feel, it is an overall GREAT rod. At around $450 this is now my highest price rod to date.
Here are the issues I have with it; the guides are very small. I fish with a Stella 8000 and 18000 spinning reals and it looks like there is a lot more friction on the guides since they are so small. I think this is a mistake. The rod is a two piece which I prefer, but only 10'6", however the size of the longer stick is right about 8 feet, which BARELY fits at an angle in the back of the bed of my Ram. Most rods are close to half and half in length, but virtually all that is the short piece is the handle. This makes it extremely difficult to carry with me, to store, to clean, etc... Also where the two pieces connect, they should think of doing it reverse, with the fatter side on the bottom piece as they usually last longer this way but this is simply a suggestion. For being their flagship rod they missed the mark in a few key places. I really would like them do fix these issues, and come out with a 12' and 13' model. Larger guides, and more asy to manage sizes. I really hope St Croix hears me. I love their stuff and we have a nead for it and we are willing to pay for it, but help us be going the extra mile which you have on most things, but these two things just do not make any sense to me how you could have missed them... I originally rated this with 3 stars and after having ued it for a couple of months, even though the issues I have with it are key, this rod is so fun to fish with, lightweight, and comfortable it is my second favorite rod to fishi with, first sometime depending on what I am doing. The long piece is a tough one but this is one of the best rods I have used apart from the issues that I have found above.
