5.0 out of 5 stars First cleanser that doesn't dry out my face but clears my skin, June 8, 2011
By
Spruce (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: St. Ives Elements Protective Cleanser, 4-Ounce Pump Bottles (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
When my skin is bad, most cleansers leave my skin so dry it starts flaking off. I discovered this product a couple years ago and I love it. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I have NEVER experienced a burning sensation. (Maybe she's allergic to something in it?) And like any other soap, you should obviously try to keep it out of your eyes.

The instructions say to gently pat your face dry after using it -- as opposed to rubbing -- and I assume this is so the SPF 10 protection stays on. When I first began using the product, I found that frustrating, since I like to exfoliate my face right after washing it. Instead, with this product, now I wash my face with regular soap, exfoliate it using one of those spongy-puff-ball things, and then wash again with this product just before stepping out of the shower. Which may sound arduous, but it is a small price to pay for the improvement to my skin. I have been extremely happy with this product.

Note, however, that at the time of this review you can get it cheaper here: St. Ives Elements Protective Cleanser 4 fl oz (118 ml)

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT, January 17, 2011
This review is from: St. Ives Elements Protective Cleanser, 4-Ounce Pump Bottles (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
My entire face started burning and then I noticed the redness, swelling of my eyelids. I am now using a cream by a dermatologist to clear up the burning. Please, do not use this product. It should be removed from the market.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ouch, My Eyes!, October 7, 2010
By
Ben C.A. Nettle (The Last Frontier) - See all my reviews
This review is from: St. Ives Elements Protective Cleanser, 4-Ounce Pump Bottles (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
Ok, I'm a guy, so take this in stride. I'm not used to the punishment that you ladies put yourselves through to be clean. I wash my face occasionally, and my wife bought this, so it was there the next time I decided to wash my face.

It seemed to lather up well first, and I applied it all over my face. All good so far. But when I went to rinse it off (I thought I was being careful), I must have gotten a little bit in my eyes ( I know that's a no-no, but it happens ). OUCH! This stuff burns. I started wondering if I had succumb to a mean joke, and rapidly washed the rest off. I flipped it over as I squinted my burning eyes to make sure it was indeed face wash, and it said it was, but why would they make face wash burn so much if you accidentally get your eyes?

I set it aside and asked my wife, and she said she has to be really careful, but even then gets herself in the eyes once a week or so. Apparently pain is nothing new for the female beauty routine, but I don't know how you do it.

I will say that my face felt smooth and clean afterward, but that was little consolation. I don't think I'll be venturing into the face washing territory with this product again. I'm just not tough enough for it.

EDIT: I have since noticed that there is a warning about this on the label, but it's really hard with this stuff to avoid the eyes when rinsing it off. Good luck!
