About the Author

Rob Rains has been writing about baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals for over twenty-five years. A former beat writer covering the Redbirds for the Louis-Globe Democrat, Rains also spent five years as the National League beat writer for USA Today Baseball Weekly. His 1998 biography of Mark McGwire made the New York Times bestseller list. In addition to writing, Rains has also worked as a radio host and an adjunct professor.

Keith Schildroth worked at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for over 30 years, first starting as a copy boy at the age of 15 and eventually working in the sports department covering soccer, golf, bowling, professional wrestling and writing sports obituaries. He covered the 1985 and 1987 National League Championship series and World Series for Reuters and was a longtime correspondent for Soccer America Magazine. Schildroth is an avid Cardinals historian and more recently covered the Cardinals for Reuters of Canada and ESPN New York.com. He is currently a freelance writer and is a member of the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
