St. Rita, Saint of the Impossible,

This review is from: St. Rita of Cascia: Saint of the Impossible (Paperback)
I found St. Rita during a hard time in my life when I returned to the Catholic Faith. I think without her, I would still have many more troubles. I think through learning of her and her struggles it has helped me in my own. I ask her for help and I think I get what I need. If you are interested in knowing about St. Rita then this book is for you. I just got done reading this and the chapter about all the miracles is just mindboggling. Please read about this great Saint.

The great love and admiration the author has for this remarkable saint shines through on every page. Read of St. Rita's disappointments, severe penances and many virtues as you relive her life as wife, mother and nun. Learn why she is known as a "Saint of the Impossible." An unforgettable story including cruelty, conversion, murder, revenge and miraculous solutions. Wow! 182pp. PB. Imprimatur.

Miracles are still possible,

This review is from: St. Rita of Cascia: Saint of the Impossible (Paperback)
I had originally gone to Amazon to find a book about a mystic, a book I had read some years ago, and found it once again. The story of St. Rita was recommended. It was noted she was the saint of the impossible and having an issue at the time, I thought reading her life story would be an inspiration. I was not disappointed. What an amazing woman for her time and the present times as well. She had indeed walked with the saints, and still sets an example to be aspired to. In a time when miracles seem to be just a delusion, after reading about her and praying to St. Rita, I can honestly say this dear woman is closest to all that is good and holy. Anyone that is in need of hope should read this profound book. It's not all that long a read, but it will inspire and perhaps reinforce ones faith
that there is someone watching over us, and miracles are still possible after all.

I really got lost in reading about St. Rita and this book does a good job. There are some things from book to book that don't match, but the basic information is mostly in all of them. This one though is one of my favorites that I have read and I have read 3.

Oh! How I love you St. Rita,
This review is from: St. Rita of Cascia: Saint of the Impossible (Paperback)
Oh! What a jewl of the Catholic Church you are St. Rita of Casia. How I love reading your story and how it inspires me to follow it. Oh! This book is so interesting as it contains the humble life of one of God's precious jewl. You won't regret buying it, St. Rita is the St. of impossible cases as she had difficulty entering the Agustinian convent after the death of her two sons and the murder of her violent husband, suffered ridicule from her fellow sisters with patience, and how she completely died to the world to live only for Christ.

To be taken "cum grano salis",

This review is from: St. Rita of Cascia: Saint of the Impossible (Paperback)
As an expression of devotion to this most extraordinary saint, this purported biography of Rita is predictably filled with improbable incident, fancifully reconstructed dialogue, and embellished tradition--not unlike the 2007 feature film reviewed elsewhere in this site. A far more tenable and well-researched summary of Rita's life is that of Fr. Michael Di Gregorio, OSA, former director of St. Rita's Shrine in Philadelphia, who manages to both acknowledge the scarcity of surviving records of Rita's life and provide a believable context of the divided political and religious loyalties in late medieval Umbria that so influenced her family life, her marriage, and her difficulties in obtaining entrance to the Augustinian convent. As this book makes inadvertantly clear, the facts, however sparse, are so much more instructive and inspiring than overwrought fiction.
A personal aside: In private conversation ten years ago, Fr. Michael averred that our presumptive author "Fr. Joseph Sicardo" was most likely a nom de plume for an anonymous priest (or a committee of them!), as neither he nor any fellow Augustinians could ever identify anyone by that name. Until Fr. Joseph surfaces, fellow readers--please enlighten! |
