1.0 out of 5 stars It'd be ok if they knew how to ship.
The cabinet is nothing special, but thats what you get when you pay 1/5 the cost of others, and thats what I was expecting. The problem is that the company shipping these things has no idea how to package something for shipping. The package is a single walled cardboard box which doesn't hold up in shipping. The cabinet is nothing special, but thats what you get when you pay 1/5 the cost of others, and thats what I was expecting. The problem is that the company shipping these things has no idea how to package something for shipping. The package is a single walled cardboard box which doesn't hold up in shipping. They are after all shipping large pieces of metal. My box had holes in it which was not good given the small screws which float around in the box. Some small parts were missing and the metal parts of the cabinet had the corners bent. Much worse than any description I read here and missing parts really pissed me off. I was expecting low quality, but not missing parts.

This cabinet is decent for the very low price. I can't complain about the quality of the cabinet; you know what to expect when you are paying a fraction of what high-quality items retail for. However, the packaging for shipping is very poor. I got all of the parts (unlike the other buyer below) but had lots of bent corners and dented ends. You should expect to get out the pliers and hammer and persuade this cabinet to be in the right shape. In the end it went together fine. Also consider the GC-908-5 which is already assembled when it arrives and is also boxed better to prevent damage.

3.0 out of 5 stars 8 gun security cabinet, January 14, 2006
This review is from: 8 - Gun Ready-to-Assemble Cabinet (Misc.)
My review will be short. This purchase was for my son for Christmas. He came home to recieve his gift, but took it home with him and found it was scatched. He lives a few hundred miles away so I haven't seen it to see how bad it was. I know he was disappointed that it wasn't perfect, but he is generally happy with the product and it's use.

I ordered this item and was told it was backordered for a few days even though they charged my credit card the same day I ordered it. Then they sent me an email telling me that it would be a few more days. A few days go by and no contact of any kind. I email them to find out what is going on and they say that it will be another 3 weeks from that point. I said to cancel and they tell me that its on its way in 3 weeks. I tell them to cancel again and they send me an email telling me to respond within 10 days or they will cancel the order. They charged me the day I ordered, but it takes them forever to refund money for an item they never even came close to sending.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Money on a Cabinet - Get A Safe, January 4, 2010
This review is from: 8 - Gun Ready-to-Assemble Cabinet (Misc.)
A thief can open a gun cabinet with a crowbar in just a few seconds. I know because that's what a thief did to my cabinet (the Stack-On 8-Gun Ready-to-Assemble). The thief used the same crowbar to break into the house, so it's not as if he needed multiple, special tools. My stuff is gone and so is the money I wasted on this cabinet.

It's not a fault of the cabinet itself. It's a fault of cabinet designs. A cabinet design simply cannot begin to give you any legitimate security.

If you live in a no-crime area and just need something to keep kids from getting hurt, this cabinet may do the trick. Otherwise, use the money you would spend on a cabinet as a start toward a real safe. Do some research, find a couple of good safes, and then if you need to save money, check local pawn shops where you might find a good safe for less money. Who cares if the thing has scratched paint as long as it's mechanically sound and works? (I'd avoid Craig's List because the seller might have the combo written down or the key copied.)

Also, make sure you have detailed info on your guns (serial numbers, date and place of purchase, receipts, etc.) and check your insurance policy. Many people have property insurance policies that offer about as much protection against loss as a gun cabinet, which is nil.

It was the largest one I could haul into an upstairs bedroom. Decent quality, and good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price, July 1, 2006

Compared to some other reviewers my cabinet arrived by UPS relatively unscathed. Nonetheless it has a few bent corners, dings, and small blemishes-- all minor and cosmetic. The instructions are relatively detailed and clear. It took me just over an hour to assemble (while watching television). Both a 7/8" and 1/2" nut-driver, wrench, or ratchet are required along with a philips screwdriver. Once assembled the unit seems solidly built. It weighs just under 60 lbs and includes hardware to attach to a floor or wall studs. The included locking mechanism locks the door on three sides. Overall, although not the best around, this probably has the best security-to-cost ratio of anything on the market.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy from this company!!, December 6, 2005
This review is from: 8 - Gun Ready-to-Assemble Cabinet (Misc.)
I ordered this cabinet as a Christmas present for my husband from Sportsman's guide. Without my authorization they linked my account information, including my email and payment info, to an account previously opened by my husband and put his name and email as the primary contact. They then sent an order conformation to him! So much for as a suprise christmas present. I left a message for a supervisor to call me about my complaint, which was never returned. When I finally did contacted a supervisor they said there was nothing that could be done about their system merging similar accounts together based on addresses. Wow how interesting is that! When I asked to speak to a manager they told me there was none. What kind of service is this? I have canceled my order and will never buy from them again.
