Great product at it's price point!,

This product is exactly what it's advertised to be, an economy safe. The combination lock is first class and is protected by a hardened steel plate. It's size and weight allow it to be installed in a wide variety of places, although in the corner of a closet is best in order to prevent would-be thieves from having room to try and pry it from the wall and/or floor mounts. Any safe under 600 lbs MUST be anchored. I've heard stories of thieves wrapping chains around lighter safes to rip them out of houses with their cars. Also, this safe will tip over with the door opened if not anchored, which would not be safe (if you'll pardon the pun!).The sides and back of this safe are made of heavy-gauge sheet steel and is welded at the corners and joints. The door is at least 2 inches thick to allow for the casing around the combination lock and mechanism, and the steel plate. The locking bolts on the side of the door are heavy duty, and pry-proof. The interior is nicely carpeted to protect the finish on fine firearms. With limited access to the sides and back, no thief but the truly skilled is going to get into it, and there aren't many of those. This is a great safe for someone who cannot afford a "real" safe (my definition of 'real' is one that is fireproof for at least 2 hours, has lots of interior room, weighs around 1000 lbs, and costs around $[...].) Since I can't afford such a safe at this time, it's perfect for my need to keep my sporting firearms from being stolen if my house is burglarized. Just don't expect it to keep them safe from fire. This safe as sold on Amazon/Fogdog is one outstanding value! A local firearms store had the exact same item at over twice the price. I saved a significant bundle, even though I had to pay around $[...] for shipping. Another thing to remember about delivery of this item is that one has to be home to receive it, and it's shipped as curbside delivery, meaning the driver will pull up to your house, and possibly (not required) help you unload it. They will not help you bring it into your house, nor install it. Shipping weight is about 125 lbs. I elected to call the shipper and picked it up at the local depot where they very kindly loaded it into my vehicle (SUV) for me. I happen to own a sturdy hand-truck which allowed me to move it into my house by myself without hurting my back. If you don't own one, consider buying one. They're extremely handy and don't really cost all that much. If you don't have the room, borrow or rent one. Plan on spending some time to locate the best location for mounting, and unless you do this kind of thing for a living, you'll need to purchase some good masonry bits for drilling into your concrete floor if you have one. I went with both floor and wall mounting (into a stud) for the best possible security. Service on this item was fabulous! It ships direct from the manufacturer and they advertise 2 weeks. I got mine in a week and was very pleased with the service. The only negative I can think of about this item is that when it first arrived my wife thought it had an 'icky' odor, probably from the glue holding the carpeting to the interior. Not really an issue in my book! One last thing, don't plan on using the shelf if your long guns are longer than 46". My shotgun, without an extended choke measures just 46" from the long angle of the butt-stock, along the bottom-side of the gun, to the end of the muzzle, and just barely fits under the shelf. If I purchase one with a longer barrel, the shelf will have to go. Sorry this turned out so long, however, I had the luck to see one in person before buying. You, dear reader, may safely purchase with confidence without having actually laid hands on one. the pictures don't do it justice as you can't see the important details.

Stack On Customer Support was Awesome,

Shipping on these can be very expensive but I found Northen Tool rates to be reasonable. Dont expect to receive this overnight. I did have an issue opening the safe and had to call Stack On customer support. They were awesome. Walked me thru some possible issues and when I got the safe opened and realized that a locking plate was loose [tightened], the safe worked perfect. Stack On did offer to have a local locksmith come out 'free of charge' to repair the unit. Not required. Stack On went out of their way to ensure I was happy with the purchase. For my troubles, they sent a 'for your trouble' check. Very Nice. The unit definitely meets my standards. Stack On customer service was way above and beyond what I would have expected.

For the price I think this is excellent. Nothing complex in the construction. It seems to be sturdy enough to withstand anyone but an expert thief. I didn't want something that would so heavy that I couldn't install myself. It weighs over 100 lbs and that's about the max that I could handle myself. The combination lock lacks smoothness in operation (no bearings I suspect) but it's not difficult to rotate the dial. I installed it by bolting it to the floor and rear wall(there are two holes in the back and six in the bottom). I also surrounded the sides and top with one inch solid shelving, so the combination of the construction of the safe, the bolting, and the shelving make it relatively secure. It looks like an old time safe which I personally like, and it's got plenty of room inside. Now I feel like I have to buy more rifles to fill it up. I think the price, plus the free shipping from Amazon make this a solid deal.

This should be a gun locker the metal in this unit is very thin, the only thing that makes it a safe is the 3 secutity bolts and a cheap combination lock. The shelf is very shaky. (Im sorry I purchased). There is no way to fit 8 riles and if one has a scope you loose the rest of the space. no place to store any ammo.... This is only good to keep kids out of your guns. very cheaply made

This is a great economical 8 gun safe for installing in a closet. If you go to youtube you can find videos of very expensive safes being pried open fairly easily once they are knocked over on their backs. The best security is a safe that can be placed in an enclosed area like a closet and mounted to the floor and the wall behind it with heavy machine screw or bolts. Placing the safe in a closet and attaching it to substructures in the wall and floor makes it more difficult for bad guys to work on. Again, for the money, the safe feels very substantial. I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants the security of a good strong safe, without spending thousands of dollars.

This stack on safe is very heavy (125lbs) and feels sturdy. The lock seems fine too. Great product for what I paid (280 and free shipping). Unfortunately it came packaged from the manufacturer and the safe had a big, deep dent on the side and the paint was scraped off. Read about anothother customer who had the same issue. You would think they can package it in more than just a flimsy cardboard box.

This safe is an excellent option if you're looking to store a number of hunting rifles/shotguns without scopes, however the barrel rests don't protrude enough to prevent any of my scoped rifles from leaning on their scopes. Furthermore, my AR-15 (with pistol grip and foregrip) will not fit in the safe. At only 9" or so wide, this is very disappointing. The "shelf" is a thin piece of metal upon which my S&W 22A (7" Barrel) will not fit. This safe is an economical option (and better than not having one), however that's about all it has going for it.

The Good:Nice sturdy safe, looks and feels solid, will keep your guns away from children and individuals with nefarious intentions. Small enough to fit anywhere, witch for me was a big consideration since I do not have much space to put it. No one is getting into this safe unless they come prepare with some heavy duty tools. I bolted the safe to the floor and the wall so no one is walking away with it either. Not an 8 gun safe in the real world but roomy enough even for the ammo. The Bad: Not much to say here. Not an 8 gun safe in the real world but roomy enough even for the ammo. Also the barrel rest are no good if you have a side by side shotgun and the scope attachment for the rest is less than ideal but does the job. The combination can't be chosen, you are stuck with whatever combination come from factory. Not a big deal but is worth mentioning. The Ugly: Like other reviewers mine came pretty banged up. Several of the corners where mangled pretty well not enough to affect function but very noticeable and yet there was no indication on the outside of the box that would indicate that the safe was like that. I didn't want to wait for a replacement so i kept it like that. All and all I would buy again, it serves it's porpoise at a good price. Not five stars only because the damage, otherwise very good.

Piece of Junk!,

So I was all excited to get this safe, however, when it was finally delivered and I opened the box I was shocked to find a large dent in the lower front left side of the safe along with a large chip of paint missing all around the dent. In addition, the top right corner of the door is missing paint as well and there are several chips and scratches on the body of the safe. Now I can live with those problems because they are cosmetic and do not affect functionality. However, the three live action bolts in the door are BENT! The top bolt comes all the way out of the door and works properly but the middle and bottom bolts barely come out of the Door!!!!! And all of the plastic rings on the side of the door where the bolts come out are broken! I unscrewed the carpet panel from the back of the door to see what the problem is with the bolts and the metal bar the bolts are screwed to is BENT! Now can you explain to me how this much damage happens to a metal safe????? I interesting part is that the box it came in has NO DAMAGE...which means this safe was damaged BEFORE IT WAS PUT IN THE BOX! Now I am stuck with a damaged scratched up safe because it's too expensive to ship this thing back! I am very disappointed with this product! I contacted customer service to request replacement parts like the SO CALLED warrenty says and I was basically told to fix the safe myself. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!! I URGE YOU TO READ OZTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS BECAUSE MANY POEPLE HAVE RECE#IVED DAMGED SAFES!!! DO NOT BUY A STACK ON SAFE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
