It is cheap and would be better to buy one that you can inspect before you buy it or loose out on the money you spent on this one.

Works good for a simple lock box to keep things out of sight and out of the hands of kids.

Good idea...a nice secure place to store a couple long guns without taking up valuable floor space around the home. And it's not something that can be picked up out of a garage and hauled away. The stealthy nature of the product also allowed me to install it in our master bedroon closet with no loss of space and easy access. Now for the problems. This product is almost guaranteed to arrive damaged in some way due to the poor nature of the packaging. This isn't Amazon's fault...Stack On only protected it with 1/2" of styrofoam. I'm attaching photos to show the damage to my unit. Functionally it's not a problem, but it's disappointing cosmetically. Second, this cabinet is small inside...14" wide by 3" deep. I could fit a Benelli M4 and AR-15 (both with mounted optics) inside, but that's about it. As other reviewers said, the included shelves will hold a box or two of ammo and that's about it. Finally, because the unit is 14" wide and most studs are 16"o.c., you should have some pieces of wood handy to shim the open space and create a solid fit. Finally, you MUST use different screws from the ones included for mounting to the studs. They will strip out if you so much as look at them. Use some good 3" DeckMate deck screws instead. It's a decent buy for the money (got mine for $78) and serves it's stated purpose fine. For those who case about country of origin, this product is Made in China.

It took me about two hours to cut out the drywall with a saw, install this cabinet in the back of my closet, and clean up the mess without anyone knowing about it. It comes with four shelves (one short, three full width) but if you plan to store long guns you can put the shorter or wider one on top. If you put the long one on top there's room to put the short one the next step down. Of course this will only hold two long rifles and the shelves are too small for anything much bigger than ammo boxes. With two guns to either side there are plenty of holes up and down the middle of the rear which are begging for a some innovative way to hang stuff from. The only flaw is that the key is a little sticky in the lock but the whole thing it seems solid and secure, not to mention easily hidden. If it had more hanging options and maybe some kind of rubberized coating on the inside rather than the useless foam inserts this would be top notch for people with only one or two firearms.

I will start this review based simply on the product and not the damage that yours will have when you get it.

The cabinet (not a safe) is a good concept that really does not provide any physical protection from a would be thief, a large flat tip screwdriver, and about three minutes of time. The sheet metal construction is relatively thin and the locking bars that engage the top and bottom would easily fail once you got a little pulling leverage on them. Where the cabinet does excel is in its concealability, accessibility, and security from children. The cabinet is well worth the $78.00 to provide the aforementioned features. I would not loaded it up with bullion and jewels however.

Now on to the horrendous packaging:

Your cabinet will arrive damaged. The visible face of the installed cabinet is exactly the same size as the box in which it is packaged, there is nothing between the cabinet frame and the ground but thin cardboard when carried as a lone person would carry it, in a vertical position. Every time someone carries the 40+ pound box they will be setting it down on one of the corners and slowly bending them over. My package arrived looking fantastic on the exterior and I thought I was lucky and not going to have any damage. Boy was I wrong, both corners on the bottom were rolled about perpendicular and the entire edge between them was wavy. The paint was also chipped off those corners. I was able to straighten the corners with a bench vise and a crescent wrench but it still is wavy across the entire bottom edge and honestly looks like garbage. The cabinet can be mounted upside down in order to switch the direction of the door opening and unfortunately for me this put the crappy side right at eye level.

All in all, buyer be aware.

I had shopped around looking for a gun cabinet. With the layout of my house, most gun cabinets were out of the question - they'd take too much floor space. This cabinet is great since it fits between the studs in your wall - I'm essentially using NO floor space to store stuff.

Took about an hour to install. No issues there.

Customer service was great, too. I had stacked up boxes of shotgun shells on the left side, and somehow this interfered with the locking mechanism. CS said to drill out the lock. At first I thought this would be a 10 minute job. 90 minutes later, and covered with sweat, I was done drilling out the lock and opening the door. Good grief. CS sent a new lock for free which was easy enough to put in. No safe is going to be 100% secure, but a thief would have to go through an inordinate amount of trouble to get to your stuff without destroying it. Prying this thing out or cutting a hole through the door would probably take a similar amount of time.

One thing that could be better is the screws used to attach the cabinet to the studs - they are Philips, which means you're going to have to try to screw them into a stud without a real way to get your weight behind the screwdriver. I'd spend $1.50 at your local hardware store to get some hex head screws - that way you can use a ratchet instead of trying to contort your body to get the screwdriver on it.

I bought this for the ammo, which I'm also happy with:
